I use to push my car so hard I probably got more kills then my boy. I'm not sure if spirited driving contributes to the oil burning at all. I kind of assumed it did and engine size.

i usually go about 5-6k miles , even this time its going to be 6k miles since last oil change. so even if its a generic oil im sure it wouldnt do much harm with these intervals.
and yes , you right , i doubt they were looking for that 229.5 mobil 1 specs lol so they most likely just bought the bulk of regular oil.
i guess ill stick to 0w40 european formula and stop overthinking ****.

I hit 100k two weekends ago. Looking at the MB vehicle record it had a fair amount of work done before I bought it at 97k, but given the car and where it was used prior it made sense. I'll likely be swapping out the front control arms and ball joints this summer.
Sweet ride it is.

and spirited driving definately contributes to that , im pretty sure
yes maybe i shouldnt but i feel safer this way and if you do it by yourself its almost 2 times less $ .... *in hope that it will prolong motors life somehow also*

So i just Hit a 100K miles coming home from the Bay Area on my 10 e550
bought this pre-owned after a lease in LA on June 2013. The car had 32k miles on it... My first Mercedes , had a BMW 545 prior (which i sold to get the benz)
Noticed one thing with the benz , atleast for me that i dont really wanna speed in it , i just wanna CRUISE and enjoy my ride (which saves me from traffic violations unlike BMW's didnt lol)
in almost 4 years
i had
1.a steering leak at around ~40000 miles (covered by original warranty)
2.2 front struts replaced to to leaking air (airmatic) ~50k
3.one rear drivers side air spring replaced at ~90k
4. recently changed my front Upper control Arm , Sway bar links , and ball joints. (need to do lower control arm and tie rods soon) ~95k
+
all the mods i did on it through out all this time.
(the car been through a lot and been to a lot of places) so far , im happy with it , now i know what mercedes all about.
thanks for your time

Mine just turned 129 000 miles.
The only major issue has been the rear air springs replaced under warranty.
I have had passenger side mirror motor replaced, the bolt on the roof tightened as the car made loud popping noise when body was "twisted".
I had Comand software updated few times to find revision that works for Bluetooth music streaming and does not kill the radio at times. This I don't consider car problem as it never was made for Bluetooth connection for music streaming. I see this a an improvement on the car.
I have had oil changed every 5000 miles...
All the talk about oil changes is so funny/stupid to me. The cheapest warranty for your car engine is to change oil often enough. If you have the Mityvac or another type of liquid extractor the oil change is very easy and low cost process to perform. While my car was under warranty I took it to the dealer for the 10 000 mile service interval but I changed the oil myself between at every 5000 miles. And this was a stretch for me as I was used to change oil at every 3000 miles but my driving is almost all highway so I'm fine with 5000 miles interval with oil changes.
I always use 0W-40 engine oil. It cost about $26 in 5 quart jugs. Filter is ~$16 from the dealer or Walmart. I change that only at every 10 000 miles.
I will keep changing the transmission fluid at 40 000 miles interval and this probably at the dealer
This car is a TANK! I will keep it as long as I can repair it. The best looking E-class with the hockey sticks in the front.
I would never buy the new E-class that looks so boring/stupid. If I need a car to look like that it would need to be the S-class and right now I cannot get to one. Perhaps later...
MB was not very smart to make all sedans look the same like other Germans did in my opinion...
But they did what they did...
About the engine oil viscosity (weight) rating.
If your car remains in warm climate you can raise the lower end number. Like I live in down south I could use 5W-40 or 10W-40 oil but I still use the 0W-40 as there is no difference in price between the oils. In cold winter climate you need oil with relatively low viscosity for cold starts so keep the 0W.
Similarly if, again, in warm climate you don't want to drop the high number. Keep the 40 so you don't loose oil viscosity during very hot days. Loss of viscosity means loss of lubrication...
My dealer uses 10W-40 probably for savings for their business but from now on as all my car oil changes are done by me it is 0W40 all synthetic.
And when I do my oil changes every 5000 miles the oil is NOT all black. It still has some of the yellow color on it, always did.

I've been doing 7-8k oil changes. Only reason I'm not doing 5k like others say is that fresh oil has detergents that wear out after a few thousand miles. There's talk that if you change the oil too often, the detergents in fresh oil isn't that good for the car.

Somehow I just can't accept that clean new oil is more harmful to the engine than the old used oil.

They do seem pretty reliable. 138k miles here, and haven't had to replace anything major. New thermostat, new blower motor, reconnect broken AIRMATIC pump wire, transmission fluid every 40k, oil every 17k, and various filters when they're due. So far more reliable than my Accord was.

Not really any tips I can think of. In general I think parking in a garage helps things hold up longer. I'm surprised at the number of folks who own an expensive car and park it outside.

Nothing wrong with my oil, which is pretty much why I change it every 17k. Last report said I could go an ever longer interval.

In Europe, they have 25k oil change intervals and there's plenty of Mobil 1 oils good for 15k. Most people in the US are afraid of that kind of interval. I think on the W211, it was originally 13k oil changes, but they lowered to 10k. Here there's a quick change oil place on every other corner so people got brain washed into doing oil changes every 3k. Just had mine done at a shop and they put a 5k sticker on even though I used Castrol 0w40 which should be good for the 10k.

Do you do mainly highways miles? I think there is one other person I saw on here besides for you with more miles on a 2010 550 then me.

Most people set their oil change interval based on opinion. It doesn't really make any sense to me. It's bad for the environment and provides no real benefit to the car. Folks don't change brake fluid, transmission fluid, or brake pads at half the interval because it's "cheap insurance." I don't know what makes people focus on oil, except that it's something they kinda understand and can control. I don't think anyone who pampers a car even owns it long enough the benefit they expect.
I'm the second owner, I got it in 2013.
