Extended Warranty Question

Hello Guys,
I changed my mind from 2013 to 2014 E350 4M Lux.
This vehicle still has 2 months or 7k miles factory warranty left on it.
This is getting certified by Nissan and they offered a 3rd party extended warranty by "First Assurance Warranty Inc", for bargained price of 4k, for next 5 years or total mileage of 125k on the car (WECF). Platinum package.

Is that a good company? do you suggest any other?
What do you use and are you satisfied with the price and service of it?

This vehicle has all 4 safety features:
https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/benz/safety
Meaning, lots of electronics, which I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks in advance.

Why not get an MB ELW? Several threads with dealer listing on here that will extend it up to 7 year 100k miles from original in service date.

Agree. Because car still has original 4/50 warranty in effect, it is eligible for MB ELW (on E 7/75 MB ELW is only $2,700 before discount of at least 10% offered here: https://mbworld.org/forums/extended-...scussions-191/)

As mentioned many times, 3rd party warranties tend to have some flaws. Either they have a deductible, go out of business, deny claims, or require a rep to double check. You're better off with the MB warranty. Good at any MB dealer in the US, not likely to go out of business and if I recall, there's no deducible and no rep needed to confirm a repair. They're also less likely to go out of business in the next 3 years. With 3rd party warranty companies, if there are too many claims, they fold and open up shop again. Didn't you ask for a quote from a few MB vendors before? Just send them the VIN and ask again to make sure it qualifies. Sometimes those cars were previous CPOs so they don't qualify for any more warranty in which case you're limited to a 3rd party warranty.

Seems a little high for MB coverage. Was that from the vendors in the extended warranty subforum or from the dealer? I think the vendors in the subforum are usually cheaper, sometimes by over $1000.

Also I believe you get free towing to the MB dealer if they fix the car there. So I guess if you have an MB warranty, you'd get free towing.

If you go ahead and purchase the car, decline buying everything but the car. Then go shopping for the ELW from M-B. You will save $$$.

I tried calling 3 people from the list; Erin suggested me to get the 7/75k, as I have only 3 years 2 months left on it(for the total 7 years).
She asked me $3105 for MB ELW; $0 Deductible.
I told her that I'm taking the vehicle delivery tomorrow, so, she created a contract for $2700, after some negotiation. She will run the credit card on Saturday..!

She was very knowledgeable on what she is doing.

That's not too bad. While you have her on the phone, ask her about the price of a 3 service pack. It's usually good if you do a B A B instead of an A B A service. 50k is probably service A so get it after your 50k service, I think 60k and 80k are major ones. I think you can only get it if the car has less than 80k. Spark plugs might be 60k.

43k as of now, done with new cabin filter, air filter, oil and oil filter changes (Pre-purchase promises/deal).

I have one full synthetic oil/filter change free by Nissan (purchasing from them).

I have 100 off of 200 coupon, wanting to use by end of may, for transmission fluid (whatever-flush or change), sparkplugs etc.,

https://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/Digital...edan_Wagon.pdf

I did not find the table/schedule for oil intervals. Please tell me the page number for me.

Basically oil changes are every 10k. I do my own so I usually end up doing it at 8 or 9k. Others that are more **** do it at 5k. Others that just take it to the dealer do it it at 10k. It's synthetic oil, should be good for up to 15k, but it's hard enough to get people to go up to even 10k. In Europe, some cars have 25k oil change intervals. (Mobil actually just came out with an oil like that in the US, but it doesn't meet Euro specs so don't use it.)

Glad she hooked you up. The MB ELW is the best option if you're eligible. It is an exclusive warranty which means it covers everything except for the items listed which are generally tires, glass, trim and battery. The warranty you posted above is an inclusive warranty which means if it is not listed it is not covered. Those inclusive warranties seem like they cover a lot but it's too late when you find out what's missing in the fine print.

True about the 3rd party warranty, I'm steering away from them, as the MB warranty is looking better with no fineprints or loop holes.

Yes, in motorcycle world also, we discuss that USA standards are different for OIL and Filter. Euro bikes need not be changed for 10k miles.
I on the other hand, do it on my own, and we do hard engine braking and abrupt speeds (Race track; high RPM for corners on twisties roads; traffic), so, we change them every 3-5k range.

My next oil/filter is at 49k, and then the free 'full synthetic and filter' gives me until atleast 62k.

update:
60k is spark plugs and 70k is transmission fluid change( currently at 43k)
I'm getting the spark plugs checked out by Mercedes today(pre-purchase inspection, again).
I got the under body of the vehicle getting inspected, since it is from NYC, originally.

I'm getting two full synthetic oil changes, by Nissan. 48k is the next one, according to the sticker on the windshield(done by Nissan at 42,xxx miles before selling)

I spoke to Jason.
He offered 3 prepaid services for 1500( regardless of which 3 services are coming due[either A or B only]), also covers air filters and Windshield Vipers.
I'm getting both the types of filters replaced(Cabin air and engine air) and asked for the old parts too.

So, I guess I'm maintenance free for 20k miles? may be; fingers-crossed.

It's probably worth it for the spark plugs and the transmission fluid change. Otherwise A service is typically $300 and B is about $500 but doesn't include those items. I think the spark plugs are move involved, I think you have to take off the intake manifold to get at them, not as simple as the older engines. And I think the new transmission fluid is ATF 134 FE which is harder to find.

They're somewhat crazy about those stickers putting on 5k oil changes when the factory spec is 10k. Then again, I wonder what type of oil they put in, should meet MB 229.5 spec.

I paid about $1,100 for a 3 pack about 3 years ago purchased over the phone from MB Austin. Guess prices have gone up.

I just got the car, I think I'll hold off one investing such big amounts for now. but definitely look for packages once it needs maintenance.

Yup, I bought a 3 pack 3 years ago for $999, Used up the last of the 3 pack last month and bought another 3 pack for the same car, now it's $1400 (bought from same dealer I got the first 3 pk from) But it'll cover the 50, 60 and 70k services which is A/B/A + Brake flush + Plugs + Transmission flush. Normal cost of all those at my local dealer adds up to $2,000+ tx and not counting any price increases over the next 3 years.

So even at $1400, I still save a few hundred dollars.

I also got a 7yr 75k mile ELW and paid just over $2k from one of the dealers in the discussion forum.

My car currently has a little less than 25k miles on it. So I assume the 30k mi service is due next?

What is the service interval? At what mileage(s) are the big ticket services due, so I know what the 3-pack will cover? When do you guys recommend me to get the 3-pack so I can take most advantage of the savings? Sorry, hope that wasn't confusing...

Well it's the B service that's more expensive than the A service so B A B is better than A B A. I think 30k is probably A service so the 40 50 and 60 are probably decent ones to get.
