Engine on or off for final transmission fluid level check?
I'm reading conflicting sets of instructions. I did the fluid swap on mine and the car drives great, but my paranoia is never ending. I want to ensure I did the procedure correctly.
Also what impact one way or another would running or not have as far as under/over filled with engine on vs off and vice versa (curiosity)
722.9, white overflow tube on an early w212 E550 (red fluid).
Thank you!

Out Of Control!!
You know how much was drained----and you put back the same amount!
Under\over filing over the long term is hard to answer, because how much over\under--very difficult to answer.

From my mechanic for my M113 V8 (C55 AMG) with the five speed transmission (722), all transmission fluid level checks are done with the engine running and the tranny fluid at proper operating temperature. This makes a huge difference in level readings. Overfilling the tranny can blow seals and valves, while under filling causes premature wear, missed and rough shifts.
