E550 mountain run

Hey guys! Just thought I'd share a video from my last trip to the north Georgia mountains. This is something I normally do in my RX-7 (currently down for an alternator upgrade), but I've found the E550 to be very capable.

The car is completely stock (yes, even using the factory Pirelli tires although they are a little chatty).

Must be nice to have any decent stretch of road (let alone one as nice as that one) without a single car in front of you the whole time. Tail of the Dragon?

Wow! Really nice video. A beautiful, long stretch of twisting roadway in great condition with zero stop lights, zero stop signs and no other cars.

This is North Georgia near Suches and Helen. I've been to the Dragon/Hellbender/Blue Ridge Parkway with the RX-7, but the Benz has not made that journey yet. Maybe later this year!

Yeah man! It's all about the timing. I've been going to the mountains for years. There are a few hours in the morning and evening when the roads are full of travelers going to and from camp sites. I go in the middle of the day when everyone is busy at the parks or trails. Alternatively you can do night runs starting around 11pm we're talking at least 100+ miles of empty winding roads for hours.

That's really nice, your video captures a great essence of what to me is the core of the 350/550 driving experience.

Nice road, but MAN, you better work on this "cow milking"
You can't make fast maneuver in case of emergency having hands working like that.

Yeah, idk. There is definitely room from improvement, but I've been using push-pull or "shuffle" for years on tight roads and autocross. Never had any issues making quick corrections.

I DO NOT use this technique for road courses.

jamaul08 06-02-2017 01:06 PM

Keep in mind these roads have many decreasing radius turns. If your hands were full lock at 9 and 3 when the radius decreased you wouldn't be able to turn in anymore without taking a hand off the wheel.

I've seen a few accidents at Tail of the Dragon because of turns like that.

Great footage. What did you record with a mounted/stabilized Canon?

I have a Nikon D3400, but no mount for it yet. This video was done with an old GoPro suction mounted to the sunroof glass.

You inspired me to go to US-181(a wide road); which I used to do using my motorcycle.
Anyone:
Will my 17s Bridgestone Potenza RE97AS (with 70%+ tread left on it) withstand the pressure or handle the corners well?

Dude, how long ago did you sell your Sentra? I use to drive a 2008 Spec V. I'm also the current owner of allsentra.com lol

Ahhh nice, it looks pretty good. I was thinking of looking into something like a Go Pro. I put some dash cam vids on Youtube but I always forget to not play music or talk on the phone for one of the runs. I have a Canon T5 which is collecting dust as of late as well.

I liked the video and subscribed. Keep it up:)

I had an 2000 model from 2011-2012(2000USD) and a 2004 from 2012 Sept till May 2013(4000USD, I know, I'm stupid).
That was the only reliable and cheaper car during my time, in and around Erie, PA.

Yeah, the Sentras have always been my go-to for a while. I just picked up a 2013 base model in March to use as a secondary and keep some miles off the Benz.

now a says, if I have the opportunity, I would go with motorcycle or a leaf :)
other option on my mind is a mini cooper s one of each under $7k, preferably MANUAL(for cooper), to get it out of my system ;)

Very nice. I wanted to get a FC once... the specimens near me were all trash though. And the FDs went for too much for what you got.

Yeah I hear you on that! Very hard to find a 2nd gen in good condition. I also have a 1986 FC that my dad is restoring for me. The body is in great shape, but it definitely needs paint. Unlike the 90', this one will actually have AC, heat, and a working radio lol.

Respect the standing star going down the road.

Also, made me miss the north Georgia roads on a clear, cool day.

AkaSigFreak 06-02-2017 06:43 PM

Great video! I had one of me driving a GL550 in the mountains by West Point in NY. You could hear the turbos spooling and blowing off.
No clock on the dash?

Fond ancient memories driving up 441 from Gainesville, Florida to Ludowici and Alpharetta for my job. Sunroof open in my 1992 Honda Accord carving though the pine forests listening to this:
