climate control button question

the button that says AC on my 2014 if I press it will turn off and I assume just go into fan mode,

on my 2010 If I press AC it just stays lit, I have to press the off button for AC to turn off, is this normal function?

Normal operation would dictate that when the AC button is pushed the AC either turns on or off. You shouldnt have to push the off button.

Ideally OFF is used to turn off the fans too.

on my 2011, the red light toggles on and off when I press the AC button.

2010 e550, pressing the A/C turns it off or on. Red light vs no light. Off turns off all the fans.

E350
I have a 2010 w212 e350. The light used to go on and off when the AC button was pushed. Now it just stays on, so something is wrong. I am asking what is the next step to troubleshoot this? I have heard of a diagnostic within some older ACC units. There is cold AC in the car. The only way to get the light off now is to use master Off. (which is incorrect because you can't have an economy mode without out the blower running!)
