upgrading the speakers
I recently installed an enclosed 10" sub in the trunk, I really like it, it's the thump I was looking for, but the mids and highs leave something to be desired. How much improvement in sound quality would I be looking at with aftermarket speakers to replace the stock Harman's? I remember reading somewhere that almost any aftermarket speaker will sound better than premium stock ones because the stock speakers are almost always paper cones.

Im pretty sure the ones in w212 are plastic and not paper material.. you can actually see it when the sun shines at it.

thanks for the reply, I've decided to do some reading before making any decisions. One thread talks about how changing the tweeters in the A pillar made a huge difference, another post said to turn Logic7 off for a fuller sound. I'm going to keep reading to see what I find

Please keep us posted and eventually let those who, like me, are not particularly skilled at choosing the right upgrade parts for our w212's rather particular and specific (albeit lacking) sound system.

Nothing wrong with a good paper cone speaker, they produce a great natural sound. The cones in the harman kardon are alumapreme which is some kind of metallic material created by harman. Many people say it produces a tinny sound but its not bad if you introduce some EQ, still most aftermarket speakers will sound better. I believe 2015 plus benzes with harman kardon have updated speakers, they no longer have that blue/purple cone and supposedly sound much better so those would probably be the easiest plug and play solution.

There really aren't equalizer settings in the stock HK system. IIRC, the 2015 only has bass and treble settings, while the 2016 has bass, midrange and treble adjustments. Same system, different software, I think.
