Retraining TPMS and service could get after service

Ok, I've read up on this quite a bit and frankly the manual isn't working for me.

Just did my 40,000 mile "B" service. First I reset the service counter. Great. No problems. When I go to "Service" it reads "Service A3 in 10000 miles". Great, right? Except I've driven about 35 miles since resey and it's still reading 10000 miles. Also, I recall the lettering being white. Now, it's kind of "grayed out" like a web link that's not active. Do I somehow need to activate it, or tell it to start counting down?

Second, I rotated the tires. The tire pressure graphic came up with all the numbers in the wrong spots, then changed to "tire pressure monitor active". This is totally normal. I hit the down arrow, and pressed ok on "use current pressures as new reference values". It confirmed "tire pressure system restarted" but again after that same 35 miles or so, my pressure graphic has not returned. I don't have a warning light on so I'm not terribly concerned, but do the two different service systems really take this long to respond when I confused them like this? Why isn't mileage counting down, and why can't I get my tire pressure graphic back?

Thanks,
Darel

OK shortly after I typed that the tire pressures came back. So that's all good.

When does the service interval start counting down?

The miles till service counter doesn't drop 1 mile at a time, It will drop 1000 miles at a time.

So after you drive about 1000 miles, it'll show 9000 miles till service.

if you don't drive much, it will at some point switch to # of days till service instead of # of miles and will count down from 365 days in 5 day increments.

A-ha! Thank you very much! Finally I can consider this nightmare service complete!

I had that same tire pressure active issue a while back when it took several weeks to get the reading again. But no issue after any rotation since then.

My graphic says something like "Service A0 in 20 days". What does this mean? I don't drive the car much and only have about 25k miles on it (only put 1k miles on it since ownership).

What do you guys recommend? Waiting until the 30k mi services, or...? :nix:

Evidently if you don't drive the car much, the display automatically switches from mileage to time-based. Oil still breaks down, or absorbs water, plastic and rubber still degrade, when it's not running so the car still wants you to PM it. It probably reaches a decision point where it realizes you're not going to hit your mileage point in a reasonable amount of time so it swicthes to time-based.
