Crossing 80k miles
Gassed up today and seeing the odometer sitting at 79,997, just a few miles from crossing the 80k mark, made me reflect a little on my experience thus far. A little over 3.5 years in and 30k miles later, my 2011 E550 is still putting up some good smiles per mile. Miles per gallon isn't too bad either for a V8 with an average of 18.67 mpg hand calculated thus far. Better than I expected and would be better if I spent more time on the highway - which is a shame considering that is where the car is at its best.
Repairs have been modest considering it could be worse. A new headlight due to failed internal assembly and bad comand knob have been the only non-routine items. Airmatic has been not failed me yet. Still have 2.5 years and 20k miles left on extended warranty if it does.
Service was predictable in interval and cost - thanks to prepaid maintenance. That 3 pack served me well covering the bigger 60k and 80k services. Now I am going a la carte for the next few services which shouldn't be too bad with A/B/A coming up. Next big one will be in 4 years when plugs and ATF are due at the same time - too bad I can't get PPM anymore.
Sure I chased my tail with battery issues, TPMS/tire problems, smelly AC filters, power steering fluid, bluetooth issues, and other distractions, but I am hoping to relax and enjoy the next few years without any major issues (knocks on faded wood).
