E220 2013 COMAND turns OFF and ON every 3 mins
COMAND turn OFF and ON every 3 mins
Hi,
There seems to be a lot of knowledge on this forum, so I said I would describe my problem and look for your thoughts.
I have a 2013 facelift E220 saloon for 2 years (UK car) now and everything on the COMAND used to work fine until about 6 months ago.
First I noticed the reader wouldn't read SMSmessages when phone was connected.
Then the NAVI was very slow to come on when pressed.
Eventually not allowing me to input a destination
Next COMAND would shut off and immediately back ON, intermittently
Now COMAND shuts off every 3 mins and back ON straight away.
When COMAND is on all steering wheel controls work.
I have removed fused and let sit for 15 mins
Had a garage check with a diagnostic tablet and they say there is no voltage loss during shutdown.
Not convinced its the HU so reluctant to buy a replacement
Removed HU and check for loose cables at back, attached is a picture of model.
Any ideas would be great.

You could try soft reset, hold on button for 10 seconds or so however, next logical step have someone check for software updates using MB Xentry. You mention no voltage loss during shutdown, any fault codes.

I have tried the 10 second reset but still the same.
I am waiting on my garage gut to take car for software update but he is doubtful that will solve it.

Still scratching my head,
I would love to get a wiring diagram of the COMAND set up or the whole car if there is such a thing available.
For the moment the good news is that all phone calls in the car only last 3 mins, then BT disconnects as COMAND turns OFF and ON

Unless the mechanic has any ideas, you could try a head unit swap to narrow down the cause. Has the car taken on any water/flooding?

A HU swap would tell me alot alright, I wonder if there are any pairing issues with that.
As regards water/flooding I will investigate this.
I live in Ireland so ill check for any flooding when it stops raining (in April) ... just kidding.
Mechanics nowadays almost need a software degree also.

Hi
Just a quick update, no solution yet
I am not not convinced that it doesn't lose power for a split second when it shuts off every 3 mins
The USB port in the centre arm rest loses power every 3 mins also.... hhhmmm
But the cigarette charger in the front doesn't lose power ..
Any thoughts would be welcomed
