Sun glare

Hello,
I have a 2011 W212 sedan and live in New England. Now with the sun lower in the sky, I find that I must always drive with the sun visor in the down position. My question is, has anyone tinted just the top six or eight inches of their windshield to reduce the need or the visors being down? And if you did tint it, what type of tint film did you use?
Thanks for the help.

Both of my W212s are tinted and I have the top of the windshield done as well. Basically about 4" at the top. This should be legal everywhere as this area is able to be covered with the visor anyway. I think is called the ANSI line and it might be marked on the windshield. My E550 has 35% VLT and the E63 has 20% VLT. The 20% is much better.

Here is a pic of the 35% on the E550.
