Warning for Too-High Engine rpm running into Red-range sector
Model: Vito Tourer Pro, 2015, 114CDI (2100cc).
I got a SOUND warning while in highway exit. I was in manual driving and chged down-shift. When Sound I saw Tachometer with pointer in the are. MB says that collision assist also warns. But I'm not sure my model has such C-Assit warn feature. Thx for any hints. JG

Over rev on downshift is the most common way to exceed redline and consequently damage an engine. Don’t ask me how I know this. Be more careful of your speed and what gear you are playing in.

Almost sounds like it went down a couple of gears. Pretty hard on the transmission too, there are clutchpack/gearsets turning at nominal or no rpms suddenly commanded to spin to the moon.

That doesn't apply. What that means i it will shut off fuel if you have your foot on the gas to prevent overreving, I've experienced it. What he is saying is that assuming we are talking about an automatic, the transmission control should not permit the downshift if doing so will result in an over-rev.
