Transfer Case Problems

Bought my brother-in-law's 2010 E350W4 last month. It has 23,000 miles on it and has been serviced since new by the local MB Dealer every year. He put less than 4,000 miles a year on it and been garaged and is in great shape.

When I drove it home, I thought the steering was a little tight during slow speeds. After a few hundred miles, the front end started shaking during slow speed turns. I brought it to the dealership and an indy mechanic and both said it was a problem with the transfer case. Indy mechanic quoted about $4,000 to repair it. MB Dealer said $2100 to repair it. I asked the Rep to reach out to MB USA to see if they could help out. He told me that MB USA would extend a 20% courtesy so the final cost would be about $1700.

Anyone else have this problem with the transfer case? There is a technical service bulletin #LI28.00-P-051499 about this problem.

The dealer just returned the car yesterday; 53k miles on the vehicle. Fortunately covered under ELW.
The struts in the suspension on both sides are shot, we got the driver side one replaced in nov, and after less than 600 Miles, I observed this weird vibrations in the vehicle when I turn the steering all the way to the left or right. I'm not sure whether the this is related to my recent encounter.
Below is what they did and the issue is suppressed for now. Hope this is a permanent fix. The Planetary Gear Set assembly has been replaced for my vehicle.

I'm due strut replacement for the right side.

BTW, I don't drive my vehicle hard, as this is my daily and only vehicle. Moreover I recently got married and my wife is still having motion sickness, so, I'm driving much more carefully and slowly (if that matters).

Well, I brought it in to the dealership and they said the clutch pack could be replaced and it was a $2100 repair. MB USA gave me a 20%. Final cost for repair was in the $1900 range. They didn't need to remove the transmission so that brought the cost down. And got new transmission fluid (at a cost of $150 for new fluid).

Surprised since this is a low mileage car that was serviced every year by MB of Southampton. I thought they would have done more. Well, the $15,000 bargain is now a $17,000 bargain.
