Dual command mode on 212
I was watching a YouTube video about 8 things that we don't know about our Mercedes and the one thing I seen that I wasn't aware of is the dual command feature that's were u hold the talk button and u're command goes straight to u're phone not the cars command unit ... So if I hold the talk button I shoul b able to ask Google voice a question as long as my phone is connected via Bluetooth... But doesn't work on my 2015 212 .. any of u guys heard of this feature and does it work ? By the way my phone is a note 8... Thanks

I saw that video, too. I think it's supposed to work with cars equipped with Apple Carplay or Android Auto. (The car featured has Android Auto available in the Comand Display at 3:41) Here is the video... .
The guys says the feature works on most Mercedes-Benzes "over the last 10 years." But I can't get it to work on my 2016 NTG5.1. Pressing and holding the button only summons a Command prompt for a phone number to call. I've even gone to the trouble to install Android Auto on my Samsung, along with all the latest support apps required. And it still does not summon the phone via Bluetooth
Maybe others can help us figure this one out.

,@ DFWdude. That's exactly the video and ure rite he States 10 yrs or newer and mine is a 2015 and I get the same as u when I press the button ...sad because that's a nice feature to have especially if u're car doesn't have carplay or Android auto which needless to say mine doesn't

This is the YouTuber rrsponse ++----Some phones need to be unlocked before using it in the car, try to enter your code on the phone or whatever, make sure it's not locked before you use it for the first time. If you have Android, you can just unlock it by saying "Ok Google". Also make sure it's connected via Bluetooth. Make sure to update your phone to the latest updates. If nothing works after that, then maybe your particular car isn't compatible...

I'll try this. But if it's necessary to unlock the screen to use the phone from it's main screen, it somewhat defeats the hands-free purpose of the feature. Maybe it's just me, but my phone defaults to locked mode after 15 secs of no use to conserve battery.

OK, discovered my phone is not screen locked at all. Minimum security... it just times out to a screensaver. And it still doesn't work.
I'll play some more later.

I have tried this trick a few times more and cannot get it to work.
IRC, no W212 has Carplay and Android Auto, other than the 2-Door E-Class. It would be interesting to find out if anyone with a 2-door can get this to function.
