2011 E300 Key Fob Issues

Hey guys got a key fob issue I need help with.
My wife went to go to work the other day and her key fob didn't work. The car wouldn't start, couldn't lock or unlock the doors, etc...
I tested the battery and it was bad, and we had a second key fob which worked, so she was able to use the car.
I got a new battery and replaced it, but the car is not recognizing it. (The battery is good, and I was able to determine that the key fob is working correctly...)
so my question is, what is the proper sequence to reprogram the original key to work the car? (I'm assuming that because I had the battery out for 2 days that the key fob lost it's programming.)
It's the original key fob which we always used since we got the car, not a replacement k e brought of Ebay. It worked the car fine until the battery died.... Thanks in advance!

Insert key into ignition and turn to position 2 in an attempt to initialize.

Interesting. I have replaced the battery in my 2010 E350 twice with no problems. Not sure if it ever died, just had problems with range so figured it was weak.
