CPO 2015 E400

Hello guys. I have always wanted to own a Mercedes but did happen yet. I am finally in a financially stable position to be able to afford it. I am looking to buy a 2015/2016 E400 coupe. I have been told by some Mercedes owners to dont buy it unless it is CPO with warranty.
I would like to know how has your experience been with CPO Mercedes cars and is it worth the extra 6-7K over non-CPO. Also if you own a non CPO car, is it really that bad in terms of service costs?
Also any other guidance towards buying my first Mercedes. Thanks!!

Service costs would be the same for CPO and normal car as well that is service.

what CPO gets you is a bit more warranty then original purchaser which can come in handy and I found CPO were only about $1200 to $1500 more than off the lot used as I figure yo uhave to pay for that CPO warranty somehow.

I have 2015 E400 Sedan purchased 2016.
My warranty runs out 2021 and is unlimited mileage.
I figure in this amount of time I will know if she is a lemon or not and is worth keeping after warranty.
I seem to have software issues with Comand system.

for buying I suggest looking from coast to coast to coast as shipping from one coast to other is only about $1500 max but you may save more than that and I figure better to have snow free car.

Another advantage of CPO, which goes hand-in-hand with the warranty, is the thorough inspection and renewal of any worn parts before the CPO units are offered for resale. Because they will carry the burden of any deferred maintenance, the dealer gives it a rather good going-over IMHO.

Lot of people can afford to buy MB, but only few can afford to pay for its proper maintenance.
Those cars can be very cheap to drive when you DIY and do you homework before purchase, or can be money pit when you buy for looks and start taking them to dealers.
So buying one without extended warranty is only for few with good brand knowledge.
As posted above, CPO is 1 way, but you can buy extended warranty on any vehicle.
Researching value of warranty might be another subject.
Good luck shopping.

My experience with my 2011 E350 4matic has been relatively trouble free. I bought it with 173K miles and have 211K now. Prior owner put most of the miles on it and had no problems either. I paid $8000 for the whole car over a year ago, so it's a bit of a different thing. If I were in your situation and that was the car I wanted, I would probably get one non-CPO because I think it's basically a bet that the extra cost of the warranty will pay for itself. If I was getting an S class, I would lean toward CPO as they are much more likely to break, and be expensive to fix. Take the extra cost of the warranty and put it away into a fund. If you need it, you have it. If not, then you have bonus money. Those are my thoughts based on my W212 experience.

Others gave nice answers, just my 2 cents.

1. Just a reminder - Insurance for a Coupe is higher than regular sedan
2. If you find CPOs are 6-7k higher than non-CPO, try to get one within factory warranty (i.e under 4yr/50k miles from the date of original sold date)
2.1 Then buy MB-ELW for less than 4k.
3. Please share your Zipcode or City/State. Lots of people are really helpful here in getting you into nice ride.

Also, are you set on E400 vs E350 or E550? Please compare these engines before buying them (for reliability)

Good Luck.

Raja - My 3 years on this board haven't shown any reliability issues with any of the three engines you mention. I have two - a 350 and a 400. Although both are low-mileage, I don't expect any unusual issues from either. I haven't seen anything that would make me fear chronic issues anywhere on the board here. Older E350 - maybe. 2015-16? Not really.

Just my $.02 here.
