2010 E350 temperature spike

I have a 2010 Mercedes E350 4 magic that when I drive the temperature usually runs at 90 degrees. Lately the temperature will spike to close to 120. If I shut down the hvac system, the temperature shortly returns to normal. There are no cel codes.

The thermostat was replaced last year.. Since the conditions corrects itself when the temperature control panel is turned off, I am thinking it might be the temperature control switch that is near the thermostat.

My E350 cooling temperature usually is slightly above 80 degrees. Lately the temperature has been spiking going to nearly 120degrees. I have been able to control the temperature by turning off the havoc on the dash control. Once I turn off the havoc the temperature returns to th normal 80 degree range. There are no cel codes being thrown. The thermostat was replaced last year (failing to reach operating temperature an throwing code.

Since thermostat is fairly new could t be the temperature control sensor??

any ideas/advice appreciated.

Thanks

You could get one of those laser temp gauges and physically check to see what the temp is. One thought is a dead or dying radiator cooling fan? Is your coolant level up to normal level?

A cooling system flush may be in order here. 2010 is easily 9 years old like mine and if the cooling system has not been flushed you might have heat transfer issues in the radiator.
