Navigation Map update
I took my 2012 E350 to the local dealer requesting to purchase the most recent navigation map update. The dealer said they could "try" to install the update but there have been several instances where the update has "crashed" the Command system which required complete replacement of the Command unit at a cost over $5,000 and NOT under any warranty.
I have never heard of such a bizarre thing before. Has anyone else heard of this?

2014 E550-sold 😩
No, but it sounds no different than any other electronic device requiring an update. It's a computer and they crash all of the time. I use my phone to navigate on longer trips and around town I know the roads and never rely on that antiquated Command mapping system.

Try another dealer. Sounds like they might be incompetent and blaming the owner. It takes a while to do the update and I suppose if they don't hook the car up to a battery charger, the battery might die in the middle of the update leaving it in a screwed up state.
