Power Seat
2009 Mercedes E350 4Matic Sports
My drivers power seat could no longer be adjusted forward or reverse. I took it to a qualified shop and the mechanic found that a small worm drive that attaches between to motor and the track had broken in half. It measures about 2.5 inches long by 3/16", made from hard twisted wire with a hairy fabric..
He removed this part from the passenger seat and replaced it in the drivers seat as it gets more adjustments made than the passenger seat. This part is not available from Mercedes unless you buy the entire seat bottom for $3500. CDN. I think this part can be purchased 3rd party, but do not know where. I'm sure this is a fairly common issue, so if anyone knows where to source the part I would very much appreciate your help.
Thanks

I managed to find a seat bottom from an auto wrecker. It has the part but not in great condition, but better than nothing. I also came across a European auto repair shop and the owner was familiar and had replaced them on other cars. His price was was too expensive for the repair. He would not tell me where he found the part either. Try auto wreckers.

Assuming your 09 e350 is not MBUSA (2010) since you’re posting 212 forum. MB does offer a repair kit for 204, 207, 212 and 218 that includes this piece among others – left side 0009107802, right 0009107902 a bit more cost effective over replacing complete seat assembly. 211, should be posting here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211-20/

Just a comment - that worm drive looks amazingly like the one found in a window regulator of 73 VW standard beetle. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy.
My last resto was that bug, here's the regulator drive. It's a clever design, the fiber adds noise reduction and smooth operation with a light application of lithium grease.
New regulator is about $50 at vendor like Wolfsburg West but of course you'd have to cut out a section, assuming it's same diameter. May be too fiddly to mess with though, especially if there is a complete kit available.
