2014 E350 Backup Camera Issue

Hey folks! My Command screen is not switching to the backup camera when in reverse. I’ve double checked that “activate backup camera in reverse” is selected in settings, the screen just remains on the current menu be it navigation or radio/audio - the screen doesn’t go black, it just doesn’t switch inputs. Any thoughts as to what could be the culprit? The issue randomly popped up today.

Did you try a full COMAND reset, yes it makes you lose your presets and Bluetooth but aside from that could be a good starting point?

While we are on the subject of B/U cameras. I have a 2011 E350. Is there a way to adjust the viewing angle of the camera.? The camera coverage is decent but would like a little more viewing angle to the aft. The field of view covers too much of the Bumper cap and less to the rear. Is there a way to set the lens to view lets say the edge of the bumper but provide more upward angle to the rear of the vehicle.

How do you perform a full COMAND reset? Thanks! You can try the Engineering Menu to select a different field of view if that’s supported.

I did mine through the audio COMAND screen …...System, settings...…...Should be two selections down from rear view camera, just under Bluetooth. RESET....Will ask you to confirm. This sounds like a software reset of the COMAND nut a reset of the entire vehicle. Takes it back to OEM factory settings. From there you can try again and see if the change worked. Remember you will have to pair back the phone and reset any changes you made to subsystems, NAVIGATION settings, Audio presets etc... Worth a shot for only a few minutes work and no financial impact. If anything else it cold be a starting point if you do have to bring to shop for repair.

Bump.

I reser COMAND and this didn’t work - on one occasion the screen turned green while reversing with some lines of static. Now, the screen won’t even switch between infotainment and the backup camera view while reversing. Tips?

You will need to scan the vehicle for any obvious codes related to the rear camera. Also check all inputs to the command, make sure it knows that the vehicle is in reverse. I have replaced many back up camera converters, which is located under the rear seat. But again, a quick diagnostic will go a long way before you start to replace parts.

I don’t have a scanner but I am due for an oil change this Friday so I will point this out to the tech. I’m assuming I can only check the inputs to command via the scanner? Thanks for the help
