OBD Scanners
Has anyone purchased a VGate iCar device and paired it via Bluetooth to an iPhone ELM OBD2 reader app?
The app is free ... but it seems like I need the plug in for the OBD port.
I am interested in the novelty of acceleration statistics & perhaps error codes ...

Not sure about that particular device, but it sounds pretty generic odb2. If you want to see what type of data it will show, you can download the free Torque app for your phone and look at what is available. What I remember is that it can show you lots of pretty virtual gauges, none of which seemed particularly useful. And it will also let you clear common codes. YMMV

I am using cheap Bluetooth plug for years. It will show available gauges once you connect it to vehicle and I don't know if you can find manufacturer list for them.
I never try to program acceleration data, but Torque does give me false reading on several gauges, like it can show 3000 psi in my exhaust, so be skeptic about them.
I spend $5 for Pro app and like it showing smog readiness with detailed list. Icing on the cake is GPS elevation.
