Monoblock RULEZZZ

Those are 25 years old classic monoblocks I bought over 10 years ago and had them on 3 other MB already.
Factory Lorinser chrome hold pretty well, although looks like PO used acid cleaners and some pitting in spokes.
That and fact that W212 has bigger offset was holding me from putting them on latest purchase, but close inspection on AMG wheels that come with the car show that 1 was already welded, 1 has dent, 1 has single crack and 1 has double crack.
The small car resaler put new tires on them (with lot of glue) but I did not feel safe driving with all those damages.
So monoblocks who were sitting in dust for 3 years come back to life and TPMS fit with no modification just fine.

Here they are on previous cars.

SL500 had originally 17" AMG monoblocks, but couple of them had damages, so I put 18" Lorinsers on the rear.

Lorinsers are 9" with 37 offset, so they stick out couple cm more than original wheels. But even with 245 wide tires, I still see lot of clearance in wheel wells and I like the more aggressive look.
BTW found nice use for low-profile AMG wheels.

Brilliant idea. Will copy that for sure. Do you have a closeup showing how it was secured to the wall?

Here it comes. I used materials that I already had, so this might not be optimal, but works well.
Simpson HD2A bracket and concrete self-taping bolt. All available at Home Depot.
I only had to bend end of the bracket at 90 degree and fit the washers, so bolt holding the wheel clamped the bracket with no play.

Working on it... I have whole selection of different style caps, but the good set went on the car.
It is painted back with chrome star type (that was on those AMGs), what is not perfect match for chrome wheels, so I am ordering new chrome caps from China and the painted one will go for garden hose ...
I only wonder if I committed a sin using SAE bolt for metric hose hanger...

Did you inspect them carefully?
I posted another picture in different topic, but those Czech-made rims on my car had 3 deep cracks with no other damages. That makes me thinking about casting stress and self-inflicting cracking.
I guess you don't need 4 garden hose hangers?

I guess everyone has their preference, but I don't think this style goes with the newer body lines. They were cool in the 90s.

Been to dealer lately for new key programming and beside courtesy car wash, they equalized/reset tire pressure, that my TPMS was showing within 2 psi.
Is that common courtesy lately at dealers, or did my monoblocks catch the eye
On negative note, the car seems to be more wind-sensitive that his twin brother on 17" wheels.
The tires are cheap, but they should not make such big difference with lower profile?
The only thing I can think about is that lower offset makes the car riding differently? Anybody has experience with driving on different offsets?

I have to agree for the most part.

The Monoblock is 100% my favorite wheel on the W210 cars. What I don't like about the ones OP posted is the huge lip that's on them. IMO it just doesn't suit the wheel well. I'm also not a fan of chrome wheels at all.

OEM E55 Monoblocks on a W210 will always look good. They are the correct wheel for that car. This is my wagon.

I also think having the correct silver face with a polished lip makes a big difference.

A W210 E55 I had many years ago.

Than my picture above is not at good angle, but black car really stands up on chromed wheels.
The painted ones Strigoi shows look dull.
When you live long enough, you will notice human taste comes and goes.
Years ago lot of houses were painted green, blue, orange, than like 25 years ago everybody was painting everything white.
Now green and blue comes back to favorite colors.
Still, no matter what your detailed preferences might be, the monoblock stand above the time.
