secondary air pump failure?
Hi... i just changed my oil at 109k miles on my 2010 e350 4matic. a couple days later i noticed a whining noise when I was driving on the freeway. after i got home, i opened up the engine cover and started the engine and noticed the noise was coming from the front part just to the left of the oil filter. i didn't know what this part was so after some googling and youtube videos. i think it is the secondary air pump.
does anyone have experience with changing this part? does this sound like something that would start to give out at this mile mark?

It went out on my ex's 2012 C300 with 40k miles. I can't remember if I inquired at a dealership about replacing it under warranty or not, but I changed it myself without too much trouble. Navigating some of the little hoses was a pain but ultimately no big deal.
I don't think the secondary air pump runs while you're driving though. It kicks on for about 10-15 seconds after you first start, but I think that's it. I'd unplug it and see if you can reproduce the noise.

Yes, the high pitch whining noise stops after 10-15 secs after start up. then when i'm driving and mute the radio, i can hear a noise that wasn't there last week. i appreciate the info.
