TIL the inside is riveted unlike other cars that uses bolts or screws (he said).
He broke the rivets to the speakers to vacuum inside it.

looks like they used a flathead to pry the glass and break it. why not use a broken spark plug d-head.

Will this fit our vehicle? Should I go through insurance?

Yeah, they just inserted a screwdriver and torqued it back until it stressed the glass enough for it to explode. Those trim pieces on eBay are flat and won't totally cover your damage. I would just touch it up with paint and order a new MB part or live with it. The weather strip is also damaged. My deductible is $500, so I would just be paying for this outside of insurance. I don't know your situation.

Same situation, 500$ deductible and it costed 350$ for the glass replacement. Anything over 150$ I can go back through the insurance, but the problem will be higher rates..!

I would like to get a paint touch up and just live with it for the time being, but may have to replace the weather strip right? Is that something we could do or have to take it to a shop?

You should be able to order that piece of weather strip from your dealer. I am not sure how difficult it may be to install without some additional disassembly. Maybe search and see if anyone has replaced door weather stripping on the site.

sad to see... yeah, people can certainly suck sometimes... but remember, it can be repaired...

check with your ins agent / co. on this as comprehensive claims (unless filed frequently) often won't raise rates, depends on your ins. co., policy, etc. - worth checking into if you end up going much over your deductible...
