seat belt problem

Hi

Today my driver site seat belt on my w212 (212.005)) stopped working. There is af rattling noise from what i think is the retractor when i fasten the belt. It does not retract the belt at all and is loose/slack. I can pull the belt, but it wont rectract it again. Anyone knows what the problem is? Have anyone step by step instructions how to get into retractor and how the panels are removed step by step?

Thanks for your help.

I had that problem on my W211. You probably have to get the WIS. You can get a knock off copy on eBay for about $6.60. Once I took mine apart, I blew the whole thing with air and it started working again. That was over a year ago and it's still fine. If the assembly is bad, you can also send them in to get them rebuilt or pick up a used set on eBay.

I think what retracts the belt is a spring and this spring has broken and spinning around that makes the rattling noise.
When you connect the buckle does the belt tensioner pull it in at all? If it does you could make it wind in with multiple connections.

In any case, have it repaired correctly. Your life could depend on it one day. I would get a new or used working seat belt and change it out.
