Hello all! Thanks again Marcorati for documenting this MB parts upgrade! I got the calipers (shown in photos), rotors (Brembo, shown in link) and pads (Brembo, ceramic, https://www.bremboparts.com/america/...us/pad/P50098N). The pads fit the caliper for both the '13/'14 E550 and the CLS 550. The pads must fit the caliper. The rotors must fit the car. The rotors that I ordered (Brembo 09.B746.51) fit the '13/'14 E550 and have the offset that matches the original 344mm rotors. They have the same offset, but are 360mm vs 344mm. The wear sensor is common to many vehicles - the one that fits the '11 E550 also fits the '13/'14 E550 and the CLS550. Turns out the "splash shield" that is stock on my '11 E550 is the same part as on the '13/'14 E550, so should not need to be swapped out or modified (trimmed). I'd like to hear whether that's proven to be true from anyone that has done this upgrade (Marcorati?). I am having my inde do the swap since I have not been successful attempting to remove the currently installed rotors (344mm), despite 3 attempts! I have made arrangements for the swap to be done on Tuesday, 8/25. My job is to have the calipers cleaned up. The photos below show the calipers after the first attempt to clean. They are not ready yet. I used a gentle cleanser and a nylon bush. I want them to look good (new), but haven't achieved the results I'm looking for yet. I still have the weekend to work on them. Any suggestions for cleaning, products, process, would be helpful. Photos of the "cleaned" calipers are shown below. Specs from Brembo (bremboparts.com) for the different rotors are also shown below. These technical drawings from the Bremboparts website show the difference in offset between the original rotors ('11 E550, 09.B746.51, 64.5mm), and the bigger rotors for the '13/'14 E550 (09.B745.41, 64.5mm) vs the CLS550 (09.B747.51, 51.5mm). I will verify the offset of the rotors aligns with the caliper/pads when bolting up to be sure the rotor is centered between the pads. I will provide more info once we can see how these "fit."

Generally speaking, this seems like it should be a good fit and easy to do. The braking on all of the other Merecedes that I have owned has been super smooth. I am hoping that this fixes the problem with the pulsating. Any help from other's experience would be helpful. Thanks!

It's kind of dark out after the time I spent cleaning.

Better than when I got them, but do not look good.

Need more work.

I put this bolt into the hydraulic hose connection to prevent water intrusion into the inside of the caliper.

Original '11 E550, 344mm, 64.5mm offset rotor.

'13/'14 E550, 360mm 64.5mm offset rotor.

'13 CLS550, 360mm, 51.4mm offset rotor.

Hopefully, new brakes tomorrow!

Unfortunately, these calipers came from a donor car from a part of the country where chemicals are used on roads, causing the cast aluminum to become pitted. I was not able to get them looking very good. Here are a couple of photos of the pistons and the rubber pieces around them, showing the part information. I did not replace these. I'll add a follow-up when the swap is finished.

Great video and follow-up. Thank you. FCP has been great to deal with in my experience.

Nice GranSport!

So I ordered the Brembo discs part number 09.B747.51 but for some reason I didnt check when ordering that the discs are identical, so on the passenger side the holes and ventilation finns are on the incorrect way.

I checked Brembo pages and they dont offer a left and right side disc. This sucks..

Has anyone done anything to this issue? I checked few aftermarket makers and all had only one brake disc available to the front, so are they all like this?

I don't know if "nobody", but OE are not side-specific.

That's how it seems to be, I checked Ferodo and few other makers and all only gave one part number for the front discs.. Strange as now even the ventilation fins are incorrect on the other side and also the drilling on the discs.. sucks as I like symmetry.

Mercedes OEM does not have separate part numbers for left and right, with the exception of some AMG 2-piece rotors. So you are good to go even though it might look weird. It does not effect operation.

Be Sure To Check Rotor Offset

Krister,

For my upgrade of a 2011 E550, I ordered 09.B769.51, not 09.B747.51. The 09.B769.51 is the one that normally fits the 2013/2014 E550. The one you mention is 360mm, but has an offset of 51.5mm. I needed one that has a 64.5mm to match the original 2011 E550 spec rotor, 09.B746.51 (only 344mm). If you are upgrading a 2011 E550 and are putting new calipers on, you may need to get the rotor with the 64.5mm offset rather than the one that you ordered which has a 51.5mm offset. Using the 09.B769.51 on my '11 E550 with the calipers that I got from the 2012/13 CLS550 worked great, the 64.5mm offset was right on. I don't know what year/model you have, or if you are swapping out calipers, but just wanted to point that out.

Too bad about the issue with the cooling fins and the fact that the rotors are not made directional.

BTW, my upgrade has been great! There has not been any return of the shuddering and the braking is both smooth and strong! I am really pleased with this upgrade.

Cheers,

BenzX5 (X5 cuz I have 5 Benz)

My car is a CLS 2015, I cross referenced the part numbers of the discs and the one I posted were the correct ones for my car it seems. At least they fit.

Here's some project pics. The calipers had some pitting etc, so I painted them silver and 2k clear coated them with new Merced stickers I got off Ebay:

Which is what I did last year, when I put in Brembo rotors to replace the Zimmerman's. 2012 E550's have the same Brembo calipers.

If anyone is interested - upgrade setup available

I have a set of these calipers \ Powerstop Rotors and pads for sale - PM for more Photos etc...I was going to upgrade but have not had any issues with my current setup so not going to mess with it.

Would much prefer to meet someone local (Oregon if possible since this is would be a very heavy bunch of items to ship)

Cheers

Bumping this up. Any would this be a bolt-on for a 2016 E400 (S212)? Seems the caliper carriers are the same for the 2011 E550s with the 4-piston calipers based on what I've read above, but difficult to tell whether this is the case for floating calipers.

My S212 currently has 320mm front rotors with basic single piston floating calipers.

Edit: just saw above that someone made this work with their E350. Case closed!
