Power Steering Malfunction

Ok this is somewhat of a weird case, and I am sorry if this is not in accordance with the rules on this forum. So this issue started around 2 months ago. Squirrels got into my engine bay and started to mess with my electronics apparently. This is quite an older car at this point so I did not take it to the dealer. The mechanic came back and said the squirrel damage was fixed, but the power steering malfunction was still present. He claims it is the power steering rack and pinon; however, from what I've watched and read, it would be difficult to steer in one direction and relatively easy in the other, but the car is difficult to drive in both directions. The power steering fluid is not leaking nor is it discolored. I am thinking its the Power steering solenoid based on what I've read, but at this point I don't want to spent an additional 150+labor on a part that may not be the issue. Diagnosis will cost 299 at the dealer, or 99 at Kwik Kar.

Basically, I am asking what you all think could be the problem just off reading this. I did have an auxiliary battery warning light, but that has been resolved with no correction to the power steering.

First spot to check with any fault code is the power supply. Have you had a flat battery?

Should show minimum 11.7 v engine off and 13.7v engine on. Anything less than that and you have a dying battery and or alternator. Modules really don't like even a small drop in voltage. That could trigger a heap of issues including what you have. Then check the power supply to that electric power steering but youll need to know how much it draws. It might not be 12v. Many modules operate on 5v or even less.

That should be your starting point. Have you had a flat battery or anything similar? Any other codes, problems or works in recent times?

It ended up being the power steering solenoid. I gave up and was working on the car one day and saw the wires had been chewed through near the area. That fixed the issue

Nice. Much better than the MB telling you to jack the horn up and put a new car under it.

Good Day, I am new on this platform. I own Mercedes Benz C220d 2017. It gives me 'power steering malfunction' error and other sign messages like 'inoperative park assistance', engine sign, low battery etc. In fact, almost if not all dashboard signs. The first time, two months ago, whilst driving at low speed locally, it just locked steering and switched off but I managed to steady it aside to stop. I googled this PS malfunction, and I took off my car key and then started it after 10minutes. All was solved. After three weeks, same problem, and same solution. Four weeks later, it only cleared to function after 4 hours. Took the car to MB dealer, (4 hours drive, to & from). They suggested I change the battery. I left, car still functioning fine. On arrival home, car did not start, of which I then changed battery myself. After new battery (12v 85ah), of similar size (12v 80ah) still the problem persisted. I then went to fetch my battery from warehouse as it dawned on me the problem is not of battery. I recharged it and tested it, it was at 12.25 whilst the new one was at 12.30. The power steering is still not operational. Sometimes the car starts immediately but steering not operational. Sometimes it starts after several attempts. Im taking it again by tow truck to MB dealer soon but am afraid the nearest MB dealers all seem inept (from experience of others). Im.afraid to be told of replacing unnecessary and possibly unrelated components like steering rack, pump etc which are way EXORBITANT. Am also clueless on electronics and mechanical services. The car has EPS. Any immediate help please.

Navara, first, welcome to the forum, second, it might be better to post under the C class W205 forum than this 212 forum, there will be people there with your car and may be able to help you more effectively as they have encountered your issues,
