2015 E350 (W212) M276 Spark Plugs Replacement

Can some one elaborate on the difficulty replacing the spark plugs on 2015 E350? I’ve been told some of the plugs are really hard to reach and a significant amount of disassembly is required. Is this accurate? Is special tooling required? Much appreciated.

You normally have to take the intake manifold off in order to replace the plugs. At least that's what the dealer does so they charge extra. They went to a 60 degree block instead of the 90 degree block in the previous M272 engine so there's less room. If you search the old threads, some claim that they can be replaced without removing the intake manifold, but it's a tight fit and you need the right tools.

And get the right plugs, I forget the manufacturer but the plugs are indexed and only go in one way if you get the right ones.

My dealer replaced mine for $375. When I asked about the intake manifold removal for spark plug replacement the tech said “Well it makes it a little easier but it doesn’t help that much and for a good customer like you we try to keep the price down”

The video is for an earlier year e350. In the 2015 model the plugs are much less accessible. Mercedes recommends removal of the intake but it can be accomplished without removal. When I did the plug change it took me 3-4 hours working slowly and carefully (same engine as yours). There is some disassembly required on the driver side of the engine to access the plugs. If you search this forum you'll find information including a very detailed pdf writeup with pictures on how to change the plugs for your engine.

Right, the 2010-2011 E-350 had the M272 engine which was easier to replace the plugs on. On 2012-2016 models, they went to the M276 engine which is a bit more difficult to change the plugs on. Here's a few threads for those too lazy to search.
