2016 MY - Issues, gripes, pet peeves
Lilbenz mentioned no console shifter. That was a big plus to me. I much prefer the steering column position and a clear console. I could do without ash trays. The cup holders are removable, but the ash tray doesn't seem to be. I'd like that to be a phone holding slot.
I'd like the cruise control to allow me to gain speed going down hills, rather than braking to keep me at the set speed. Maybe a compromise of allowing 5-7 mph above set speed. That's free momentum I'm giving up. On longer hills, I disengage c.c. and coast as fast as the car wants, then resume as I coast closer to the original set speed.
It's a joy to drive, and I may find I have preferences, but nothing I can't get used to. And I love the styling of the W212. Haven't been this enamoured since the W108/109s.
Try it and see if that helps. and no one ever mentioned this, but I love the Eco Start/Stop. I used to do it manually, if I just came to a signal/intersection and I see I have to wait more than 30 seconds.
7 seconds of idling the engine costs same amount of gas to start the vehicle.
In newer cars that have:
ECO,
Comfort,
Sport
Sport+
Sport+ is the only one Eco S/S is turned off.
*Based on the loaners I had.
1) Floor mates are super thin and flimsy, no longer have the metal MB badge
2) Mini box left of the glove box is no longer there (it was a perfect place to keep my business cards)
3) Agree on the Eco on persistence (I ordered a software mod to address this)
4) No touchscreen, nav is still very cumbersome (but plus for voice control and also have a software mod coming to enable android auto/carplay)
5) Compartments under the front of the seats are way smaller
6) Annoying "double door" on the center console storage compartment
7) The vent slots on the sunroof shade were moved from the back to the front (makes it feel unnatural when driving with the sunroof tilted up from the rear)
I still love the car though. Here's my favorites pluses:
1) Dipping mirror is back!
2) Much more acceleration power than the W211
3) LED headlights
4) Integrated USB ports in center console
I'm sure I'll find more to love
6 - I agree and I love the S-class lid/door.
5. I wish the infotainment system had a 6-disc changer instead of the single-disc changer it has. I have hundreds of mp3s on a thumb drive connected to the USB port in the console, but I often find mp3 sound quality to be worse than that of CDs. Maybe a misperception on my part.
I have 6-disc changer as I got the H&K Sound package..
If you're not the first owner, the first owner didn't wanted it may be.
I'm the 3rd owner and I missed:
1. Wheels - I upgraded easily
2. Steering wheel - Leather - I like the wood trim and was lucky enough to get one that matched my specs.
3. Rear split folding seat - this is a b* and I couldn't get it done - It was only 450$ option and the first owner didn't seem important I guess.
12. I was a bit disappointed to discover that there are differences between the installed options / features lists shown in DataMB.com and the VMI sheet provided by the dealer. I was a bit disappointed to find out that only the driver seat is ACTIVE MULTICONTOUR FRONT SEAT (as per VMI) instead of DYNAMICS SEAT,FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT (as per DataMB.com). Worth noting that they both share the same option code 432.

12. Is the Active seats that just the bottom part of the seat tilt down or up and the back part tilt front and back just to make your blood circulation easy in thighs and back while driving long distances (I saw this in 2020 A-class - called Seat Kinetics) or you have the massage but no active side bolster that makes the normal seat into a bucket style seat?

Also the above is correct about not being able to shift from park with a dead battery.
I will also agree that the sound quality of any mp3 lags noticeably behind a digital disk in the changer.
Sadie has the designo steering wheel. Despite the insane price, it's not heated. Would think that for nearly a grand they could also have made it heated.

Sometimes I don't want to announce when I have unlocked my car while I'm approaching it or while I'm sitting in it.
Sometimes I don't want to shine my headlights, announcing to everyone that I'm leaving.
Why does Mercedes think they have a right to decide this for me?

Let's say I want to leave an evening gathering unannounced (for whatever personal reasons). As soon as I unlock the car, the DRLs and parking lights all light up and stay lit for 30 seconds or so. Then when I turn on the ignition, the headlights instantly turn on.
When I unlock the car, a quick flash of the parking lights might be unavoidable but at least I want to not have my activities fully illuminated and I should be able to drive off discretely without the full shine of the headlights announcing my movements.
