Engine bay smells
After shutting off my 2014 E550 in the garage as I walk past the front of the car there is a strange smell. Something like plastic, or of an electrical nature. After lifting the hood there is no smoke or anything out of the ordinary. No recent services or fluids present. A wild thought, could it be the cooling fans for the lights?

Mine does it too, smells like hot plastic, and I too have the LED’s with the cooling fans. I think it’s that. It definitely doesn’t smell natural sometimes.

Thanks for the "I'm not the only one that smells it'. Before I went to the dealer I wanted to make sure it wasn't my imagination because we all know the dealer's reply would be " we've never smelled that before". Your service advisor will take care of it. Drive around to the service dept. ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching

It’s a different type of smell than hot brakes, it an unnatural smell sometimes.
question to the op - you still on the original motor mounts? I only ask because my mechanic told me a couple of weeks ago the mounts typically start to go in the 50-60k range on these cars, in some part due to being sooo close to the exhaust manifold underneath, the heat accelerates their wear I guess. Don’t these mounts have a fluid in them? If so, and so close to the hottest part, maybe that’s the smell? I’m 85% positive mine are on their way out now. Just feels and starting to sound like a car with worn motor mounts to me.
