2010 E250 CGI Grinding Noise On Startup
Hi guys,
Hoping you can help me diagnose this. I have a 2010 E250 CGI which is making a strange metallic grinding noise on cold starts for about 30 or so seconds.
This isn't timing chain rattle (unfortunately I know what that sounds like very well). This sounds like an angle grinder and doesn't increase/decrease with RPM. Do you know if the E250 CGI M271 turbo motors have a secondary air pump or smog pump that runs on startup? If so, where is this located on the motor?
I can't seem to diagnose exactly where the sound is coming from...

Same problem as what you have described
my w212 e250 cgi 2009 have the same issue , happen on cold start usually for 30sec or more and return to normal rpm , the sound of it more like a rotating fan in high speed whirring sound , but there is no apparent problem and the car work like normal , mechanic was unable to identify the problems, is not due to belt pulley .wasted $ money for the pulley
