Take key out of ignition

Hello Folks!!...;
This morning I went out and started the Benz. I hadn't run it in a couple of weeks so I thought I'd limber her up a bit. Soon as I stuck my key fob in the slot a message popped up on the info and said to take my key out of the ignition. WTF!!.... So I took it out and put it back in and the message read the same again. So I started it anyway, and it made a little pht-pht-pht noise from under the hood. Sounded like little air puffs..... single.... like from one cylinder. I let her warm up a bit and it was still there. MB Service writer had no clue so I'm asking the great MB in the sky (Your Forum) for a block of instruction..... It runs smooth, with the exception of our little air pop noise from under the engine cover Thank you for any block of instruction you can offer. And if I have this in the wrong section, please move it to where it belongs
Thanks
Fred

There is no connection between your key and the noise your engine is making, obviously. Perhaps you left the car sitting long enough that it needed to recognize your key. Do you have another key that you can try to see if you get the same message? Sounds like it is recognizing the key and then asking you to remove it. Kind of like what happens when you initialize and add a new key.

Thank you Key08 for the help. My wifes Fob works without the error message. Mine still worked, but with an error message. The noise in the engine compartment still makes noise. I really don't understand..... It ran perfectly a couple of weeks ago I just hope that noise is something besides a compression leak somewhere.. It's been cold here but 25 is about the lowest we had. And the anti-freeze is fresh. I guess I'll find out the 26th when I take it to the MB in Beaverton....
Thanks again for your reply.....
Merry Christmas and I bid you a Healthy and Prosperous New Year to you and yours... ;>))

Back at ya! I’m sure there is nothing serious going on. Being an MB driver for twenty some years I have become used to their quirky behavior, which usually resolves themselves.
