Steering wheel turns rough
when I turn my steering wheel from right to left (lock to lock) I get this not so smooth steering turn on my last revolution of the wheel. It seems to be hitting some sort of detentes or valleys of gears of some kind. Very low frequency "click" or "glicking sound" per every 45 degree on the turn......... Does this sound familiar with anyone?

My old W211 used to do this. My hunch is that it's caused by the steering rack (rack & pinion). I eventually replaced the steering rack due to a fluid leak. I replaced it with a used one and this issue went away temporarily, although it returned but not quite as pronounced.

I wonder if this is a symptom of the announced service campaign on the bolts in the steering rack.
