Dears I had faced this many times but it does appear if I wash the car.

I think the dust plays a role in this issue.

Your post is six weeks old and after you went to the dealership, if this is not yet resolved, repost and I'll tell you my story and how I fixed it.

Haven't really driven the car much since the last post. I was out of town for a couple weeks, then the whole stay at home thing started. I've put maybe 500 miles on her and have not seen the PRE-SAFE message pop up. I turned off the seat belt hug, it seemed to be working properly. Curious how you fixed the issue?

Okay, so I'm an engineer and tend to be very meticulous about things, When I remove my seatbelt I hold on to it with my left hand while pushing the release with my right. I also hold on while it retracts into the slot in the pillar, had my 2012 E for 7 years, never an issue. My wife however pushes the release and gets out without touching the belt and I frequently find it partially retracted and or twisted. the pre-safe waring light has gone off in her car three or four times since we've owned it in the last six years, 2013 E. she also uses the lowest setting on the seatbelt height, I use the highest setting all the way up. When the light goes on, I turn the key to on, then unwind the seatbelt to full extension from the pillar giving a tug at the end, then let it rewind all the way slowly back in all the way.
Then I grab the height adjuster and pull up toward headliner twice, Light alway goes off and stays off. Until the next time it happens! Not casting any blame here, but this has worked to get the pre-safe fault to go away by itself 3-4 times now at least. Our last car was a 2003 S500 wife car. and this happened many times in that car over the 16 years we owned it. I watched the service advisor do this at 9k miles, he was done in a minute and I left knowing how to fix it from then on! It has happened much less frequently in the E 350, but still happens. This works on all four retractors in the car, I know this forom going on road trips for vacations, house in Arizona drives, which is 1800 miles and usually four days in the car so, wife in the passenger seat! If you repeat this to anyone I will deny it! She and I have had the same cars for many years and this has never happened to my car, even though their basically identical.

It seems like you would have to really try to get the E's seatbelts to stay hanging out twisted. My car seems to actively retract them rather quickly once I unbuckle. That said, it shouldn't take a lot of thought to exit the car.. I doubt this is OP's issue.

Interesting pierrejoliat… I would like to have tried that before they changed out the seat belt assy.

Glad to share, It worked for me, despite others comments. I do miss the S class forum, whole different class of people in general! I have been driving Mercedes since my first 190 E in 1989, so my dealer is pretty helpful.

mechanically car is fine.
Update: For the past 2 weeks these messages starting to pop up constantly on daily basis.
Distronic plus inoperative
Pre-safe limited see manual
Adaptive high-beam assist
Inoperative lane keeping assist.
I knew it was going to be a costly repair and needed to be done soon. Yesterday I drove to San Diego round trip around 200 miles, On my way back the messages disappeared I used every inoperative feature and they worked perfectly fine, no more messages today either. I think the alternator charged up my batteries and the problem was on a low battery output.

Interesting this thread popped up again - my car has now had the driver's seatbelt replaced. No error ever showed up but the pre-tension on the driver side was weak sometimes and strong other times.
