W212 Engine Replacement

Hello I have a seized engine in my 2010 Mercedes E350 4matic(Gas). Engine only had 65k and oil tank full and engine did not over heat. My question is how to know which engine match my specific vehicle. I know I have an M272 and I know my engine number. But are all M272 engines the same? Does it make a difference if the engine I am swapping with did not have 4matic for example. Just very curious, I would hate to purchase the wrong engine because I didn't know enough about the specifics.

I am looking at this engine and I have attached a photo of the engine info. Would engine match this one based on my engine number.

My Engine Number:272977 31 439608
My VIN:
WDDHF8HB8AA156746

Thanks for any help!

Engine I am interested in.

Full engine model number is about 6 digits and the following 3 digits give you specific on the engine version.
4M is out of the question as it has different oil pan.
Also the same engines put in different models between sedans and SUV will have different piping and different mounts. When having old parts you can switch them, that adds to job complexity.
Also remember to remove all modules from old engine and transfer on new on, or you will face software matching nightmare.
That is why with high labor charges in USA such projects end on Junk Yard.

Silly question, can the OP upgrade to 550 engine if he wants? Now is the chance for power upgrade?

Everything is possible when time and money are no object.
But changing to different engine opens questions if transmission and differential gearings will match.
Than marrying new ECU with rest of the computers will make new adventure.

Did you replace engine by yourself? I would like to do it on my car just not sure if it's more difficult then I think.
thanks

What's the saying, "if you have to ask..."

Assuming the replacement engine is the same variant and you reuse the old ECM... then its "plug n play".
