To Buy or Not to Buy- 2011 E550 4M to 2014 E550 4M
Hi everyone - hope you and those within your purview are safe!
I have a chane to pick up a newer 2014 E550 4M...I currently have a 2011 4M
I think i want to but here are my points -
I'm hoping some other thoughts because I feel its a 50 50...sorry the list below is in no order...
My car - 2011 E550 4M - 118K miles but still under bumper to bumper for another 9 months or to 136K
New car would be 2014 same equipped save a couple of options listed below - with 65K miles - 60 day 3K miles bumper to bumper
Both cars are about as equipped as you can get...and both are my favorite color combos, Diamond white with light int.
My car has Night Vision and yes I do like it and do use it...
But 2014 has LED headlights - Im assuming are better, heated steering wheel and rear ent. and of course the 4.6TT engine...upgraded command I think
My car has OETuning - which has been fantastic and my car is great performance wise - has New Airmatic on the front...and lots of other new stuff
I can get an extended "Whats not covered" service contract for another $5400 - that will extend the car 7years years and to 100K miles - both additional
The price with me selling mine and buy the 2014 I think would be about 9K diff...so in all with buying the warranty say 15K more?
What would you do?
What other newer advancements would the 2014 have over mine?
I know the 2014 550 are desired - maybe that is part of it...?
Saving money during this time might be smart too?
Thanks in advance...

What's the VIN? While LED was standard, there was still the LEDs with active curve illumination and auto high beams which was an option. I think on parktronic, 2011 was just guidance and 2014+ actually did it for you. The real rare option would be the driver assistance package along with the pano roof, parktronic and the lighting package, never seem to find one with all those. You're basically in the same platform but with some engine changes and platform updates.
It's your call, but I don't think going 3 years newer is worth it. If I were doing it, I'd like to go 4-5 years newer but you're stuck at 2014 due to it being the last year for the E550. You'd have to do the E400 to go up to 2016. There's also the E43 and E53, but those haven't really been out long enough for the prices to drop and I think the E550 might still have the E43 beat.

LED is not standard on the 2014, they still have halogen.
If you can afford it I would go for it. My 2012 (same engine) is at 90k and it has been a phenomenal car. All the parts I have changed are either self inflicted damage, maintenance or me wanting to upgrade something.
I would not recommended because I want to buy another one,and don't want them to run out.
But I got to be honest, is a nice car.

Thanks for the replies
both cars are fully loaded..
Its easier to say what they do not have
2014 does not have Night vision - has every other option that I know of - it has 22K in options alone.
2011 only option it did not have is the rear entertainment.
So yes LED with active curve on the 2014....
I think you are right too on the parking assist - just guidance on mine.

The facelift brought a lot of updates.. but $15,000? If your car was problematic, I'd say go for it. But it sounds like your car is well sorted and well maintained, though it is aging. Still, the devil you know...

One other note - i have not seen the car in person - but had plenty of Photos from the dealer sent to me. Car was from Indiana and some of the bolts control arms have some very light rust...which scares me as no warranty covers anything rust related.

You've got a good unicorn there. If it weren't in CA, I'd be interested in it. Many love the diamond white color and no black exterior/interior is hard to find. That's a very hard car to find, if you look, nationwide only about 20 on the market and half of them probably don't have the lighting package and it gets more difficult from there to find a low mileage loaded car. For $5400, I wouldn't bother with the warranty, I'm not sure you'd get that much out of it and there isn't really that much that goes wrong with these aside from the airmatic, but that shouldn't be in the $5400 range, I think the Arnotts are a little cheaper than the ones for the W211, one site says $220 for the rear air spring. I'm paying over $700 just in parts for the front springs/struts on my W211.

For $23,900 it's not a bad deal, I'm surprised it's still available, been listed for 30 days but maybe the current situation has something to do with it.

Looks to be some damage on the passenger side skirt just below the front door line between the front quarter panel and front door. Always tough to tell from pictures looks to be in decent condition.

My E550 MSRP was $80K and I didn’t think I would ever see another with more options. Your rear entertainment puts it over the top.
Very rare car. Regardless, of whether you want to go with the warranty or not I would still buy it

Yeah, now that I look at the list I think that car has every single option you can get. The only thing missing is the leather steering wheel which you probably can't get if you have the heated steering wheel, it's probably one or the other. That's a real unicorn, someone checked off every single option when buying it. You can honestly say that car is loaded. That hardly ever happens as the dealers only order them with a few of the main options, not every single one. Even the paint is a high cost option. I'd buy it even with the accident and get it fixed. Accidents don't bother me as they are unavoidable in the city with so many bad drivers out there. As long as it's fixed it should be fine. I'm also not sure if that's just an optical illusion, you'd have to see it in person.

Carfax shows no accident history with a good annual service history. The driving package (Distronic) would seal the deal for me. That is the one option that I wish I had.

I agree it is really a rare car, but is it worth $9,000 (plus his trade)? That is the part I just don't know.
Someone should buy it. It's a steal and a unicorn. But he likely already has features like DISTRONIC since he even has night vision. The LED lighting package does work better than the old HID adaptive setup, but it has a very strange looking beam pattern and is not thousands of dollars superior - if that makes sense. Do you need rear entertainment? I don't - some might. No comment there on it being worth it. Same with heated steering wheel, I'd take the leather/wood one over the heated one. Do you need a car that parks itself or steers itself? Those are interesting features. I have never sampled active park assist, but I have experienced steering assist across a few brands and find that to be annoying and is something I would leave turned off. Lastly I am sure the TTV8 is a sweet engine, but I prefer naturally aspirated engines myself. You already have one - and it's tuned.
I'm going to go against everyone else so far and say save your $9000 and enjoy the rare car you already have and know.

Thanks all for the input - at this I think with agreed comments -I'm going to pass on the car for now...
Watch soon for New Wheels and tires - I ordered for my car from 2 weeks ago!
(Would of had new car and new wheels LOL)
If someone else grabs the car - let us know - it sure looked from photos as a good looking car!
Cheers to all - and be safe
