Mercedes E Class 2014
Coolant Leak

I have a 2014 E Class 2.2 cdi and every 3,000 km the coolant level is dropping to bring on the warning indicator. there is no signs of a coolant leak around the engine. Has anyone any experience with this ?

Hi,

There are number of basic checks you can do.

1. Open your oil filler cap on the engine - if it looks like mayonnaise or cream cheese you have a leak into the engine oil - nasty problem with a few possible causes - dont drive the car you will cause more damage.
2. When you park your car on a dry, level surface, place a large sheet of cardboard underneath. Any leak of coolant out of the system may be easier to spot which side, front or back and help you to narrow down where to look in the engine bay. Don't mistake the clear fluid from Air Con drain close to the cabin.
3. Check the seal on your radiator cap - your local mechanic/cooling system specialist could do a quick pressure test on your cooling system.
4. Possible leak into transmission fluid cooling system - hard to check yourself but probably the worst case scenario - reported on some E350 models.

Recommendation - don't leave it unchecked. Have an indy shop or dealer check it out now before it becomes a big problem.
