Installing Quaife ABT Limited Slip
Guys,
Some pointers if you are going to install it.
This video below is what you need to see : with some important notes I shall personally provide
Based on my W212 E400 2014 RWD not 4-matic.
Axle part number stamped on unit : A 203 351 07 I don't know why there is a sticker on the axle with some numbers I can't trace.
The LSD model I got and come with shaft oil-seal (2 pcs).
The SKU based on invoice
CAUTION
01. Use bushing/adapter to make LSD body take the load away for the already installed bearing at bottom...so that the bearing at the botton does not get pressed when top side bearing is inserted using hydraulic press.
It too small a clearance to risk not using bushing/adapter
Video time , at 16:50 Based on the video I linked.
02. Forget moving the two bearing to new LSD from old differential. Don't waste time, buy new bearings better. Its is cheap if you live in USA or Europe.
For me I can't find these two bearings. Mercedes Indonesia DO NOT sell them and part numbers not available in the EPC. Only the seals are available.
The video did not mention that the 2 bearings are NOT the same for its cup and surely the rollers, the 60mm I.D is the same. So becareful !!
Both are from NTN
The cup is different
You can use this info for cross reference of the bearing.

My take :
This LSD is very well built. Very accurate machining.
The backlash was within tolerance.
Since there is no clutch pack in this torsen-like LSD, it uses the same common non-LSD Mercedes differential oil A0019893303, no need special clutch type LSD oil.
I was recommended this below, but I stick with Mercedes OEM one because the reccomended type Sintopoid is NOT available in Indonesia... LOL.
"Quaife recommend Titan Sintopoid 75w 90 fully synthetic gear oil. Equivalent 75w 90 fully synthetic gear oils from other manufacturers are approved, but please take care not to install any gear oil with friction modifiers, or LSD lubricants. This could negtively affect the performance of the Quaife differential."

Locally I can only get this one : It has "LS" in the name.

HOW IS MY CAR TRACTION NOW ?
I have not done aggressive driving or do track time yet with this Quaife ABT LSD.
One thing for sure, better traction I am getting. Simple examples.
AA. Going into my house, I need to do maximum left turn and my left rear wheel negotiate the slope up the car park usually loosing grip and spinning.
Nope, the left rear did not get lifted off the ground, but not enough weight on it probably....for the above scenario.
Now with ABT LSD, its nice no lost of traction.
BB. Partial wet tarmac, Toll booth payment/gate.
When I stop to pay and take off again, usually some part or entire track of the tarmac/asphalt has very thin water puddle, it is condensation disharge from the toll operator 's booth airconditioner.
Hard acceleration here will spin the wheel and wiggle the rear and ESP will kick in.
Now it is much better grip.
I shall update the improvement once I have the opportunity to experience them to the maximum.
End of Report
