Some wonderful kids decided that my hood ornament on my E550 was not needed and decided to rip it off.... I've got a few questions as to the hood emblem and grill. Is it possible to get the grill and emblem off a similar year E63 AMG? Correct me if I am wrong but is it the E63 AMG that has a different grill and a flat badge on the hood instead of an ornament? I'd like to convert it over to that since in my mind it looks better and will hopefully stop kids/miscreants from destroying my car any further... I've attached a pic of what happened, luckily there isnt much damage but the hood has 2 deep scratches by where they were prying...
The stamping in the hood is the same, whether home to an upright star or flat badge. You local dealer sells several Sport/E63 flat badges every month. Hardly worth buying a cheap copy from eBay. Installation takes less than a minute.
Some folks like the flat badge with the luxury grille. Installing a star grille will take considerably longer than a minute. I would do this in stages to see what you like.
Excellent, thank you. I'll have to call my MB dealer and have them ship the flat badge to me since my closet dealer is 2 hours away. And I figured the grille would be a little more involved to install, but if anyone has had any experience with a company 55 tech and their grilles I'd like some feedback if possible

Just to be clear... The flat hood badge will be a larger diameter piece than the upright base, to cover the divot stamped in the hood. And you will need choose whether to buy a flat badge with standard dark blue wreath surround, or black. Just so you know when you call the dealer.

Dang, sorry to hear this That really sucks.
Let us know when you get the badge installed and what you think of the change

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Places other than the dealer also sell genuine badges online. I think RM European carries them. The hood badge is very simple to swap out. On the pre-facelift 212, I believe you can swap out the grille without having to remove the bumper.
You cannot use the regular, 57mm "large" flat hood badge, it WILL NOT fit and it WILL scratch your hood. The crease in the center of our hood will not allow it. You MUST use a 45mm badge on pre-facelift cars!
Prefacelift grill replacement only takes about 15-20 min, no need to remove the front bumper cover like on the facelift cars
Interesting, I called my MB dealer and they told me this part number A2048170616, would fit. But when I look that one up its the 57mm badge. I'll have to call them back and find out the smaller badge than. Also when was the facelift for the E550? I have a 2013.

Previous posts are correct. The flat badge is too big to fit and the center grease will not allow it as it keeps it up from edges. You need small badge that fits in the smaller divot on the hood. I don't know if that badge is even available from MB. When I bought my star grille from 55Tech it came with the OEM badge but it is way too big to fit. Instead I bought badge made on the stand up star base. It was from DFWdude who used to make them. It cost money but is excellent quality.
55Tech grille fit perfectly and is very easy to change without any need to touch the bumper.

I haven't made my White Star Flat Badge since 2013, BTW.
I bought my 2011 E350 in September 2010 and in about 6 months later I got my star grille and batch from you. It was pricey but looks awesome in place on the hood.
The big barge that came with the 55Tech grille I used in place of the star that fell off of the engine cover. It is perfect fit for that.
Hmmm, I know this is a long shot but does anyone have the actual part number for the 45mm badge? So far the numbers I have come up with or found badges that look like the will work are all 57mm.
I do not believe Mercedes makes a 45mm badge...not that I've been able to find.
Konigstiger: I don't doubt they do, but I ordered that one, and it's too big. I mean, it will physically fit in the hole and clip in, but the crease in the hood holds the edges off the surface of the hood. This is the pic from when I installed the badge on my hood:
You can clearly see how it sits up on the edges and doesn't sit down flat, like it does on the flat hoods.
I have an aftermarket AMG "poser" badge, just because I couldn't find anything else I liked to replace the star with. I didn't think the car needed 2 star badges on the front after I changer out my grill for the "sport" 3-bar grill.
