Seat swap on a 2016 E350 - and general seat differences ?

My mother owned a 2015 E350 that she unfortunately wrecked and they totaled. She wanted basically the exact same car, so I found her a 2016 that was optioned almost identically. However, her 2015 was a luxury model and the 16 is a Sport model. She has complained a lot about the seats in the 2016 stating that they are a lot more uncomfortable than her 2015, but I assumed they were the same. I own a 2015 E400 Sport (with leather, compared to her mb-tex seats that both of hers had). She complains that the 16 has higher bolsters that are uncomfortable. I had a chance to compare mine and hers side-by-side and her seats do seem to have higher side bolsters. She sat in my seats and said they are a lot closer to what her 15 had... I also observed that her 16 does not have the adjustable bolster sport seats and has the identical controls as mine and her previous car (lumber adjustments and position adjustments only).

So I guess I have a couple of questions:
  • Did they change the standard/base seat in the final year (16) compared to the earlier cars? Seems unlikely
  • Do Luxury models have different seats than sport?
  • If I can source a different seat, can I simply swap it in without coding and the controls will work?

Thanks in advance!

I think all 2016s in the US were Sport trims - unless you special ordered otherwise, so you'll likely not find a 2016 luxury for sale.

I was not aware that a luxury and a sport had different seats. But you're saying that your 2015 sport has the seats she's looking for? But her 2016 sport ones are different?

Also - bolsters on the sides of the seat or thigh area?

My 12 is a luxury and my 13 is a sport, they have the same seats, although the 13 is an inch lower in ride height, it's noticeable. Also the 12 luxury rides way better. my son has a 15 luxury and my buddy has a 15 sport all four cars have the same seats, but again in theirs, the ride and ride height are way different. To your question about a change for 16, anything's possible, but I don't believe likely.

Just get a copy of EPC, punch in the vin number and see what the part number is for seats for both years, should tell you if it's the same or not. As others said, the sports suspension is about an inch lower so that would account for a harsher ride and it could be that instead of the seat.

The part numbers appear to be the same from 2015 to 2016, and there is no difference in terms of whether the car was luxury or sport trim. Seems to indicate what we all expected - same seats across the board.

Is it possible the 2015 seats were just a bit more worn out? Is there a huge mileage difference?

Thanks everyone for the info.. I will need to compare mine with hers more closely. I didn't see a difference aside from the pattern, which is different between the mb-tex and leather versions. But I assume given that her old 15 was Tex and the 16 is also Tex that they should be identical.
