Locking issue using FOB

Hey All -
I have a rather peculiar situation that just happened this evening. When I parked my car, turned it off, and stepped outside to lock the car using my FOB, the car would not lock. At first, I thought there might have been another door opened (odd, because I was alone), and then I thought perhaps the trunk was opened... but no - everything checked out, but I could not lock the car. I was able to pop the trunk open with the FOB and then lock the car with the lock button found on the trunk panel. Once locked, I was able to unlock the car using the FOB. So that tells me the FOB's battery is fine. I then tried again to lock the car with the FOB, and no luck. It would not lock.

When I got home, I found my spare key and tried the same procedures, and I got the same results: I can't lock the car using the FOB, but I *can* unlock it and pop the trunk. Trying hard to avoid a dealer visit, so I'm really hoping someone knows of this matter and can help.

Thank you all in advance -
Joe

Don't laugh at this, but...

Hold the fob against your lower jaw and operate the lock button. Your jawbone amplifies the signal at the same distance you tried before.

If the doors lock with this technique, then your battery is indeed low.

It's pouring rain now, so I will try that (with no one looking) tomorrow
But... BIG BUT... this happening on BOTH Keys??? what are the odds?

BTW - I put a new battery after my original post and re-tried. Nada....

OMG!!!! Seriously – I need a vacation and stiff drinks – and like NOW!!! What a ****ing blonde moment this ever was...

Do you want to know what I’ve been doing over and over again to lock the car? I was pressing the UNLOCK button – yes … over and over and over again thinking I was cycling between locking and unlocking – using the SAME button!!! I only figured out how stupid I was when I tried it this morning, and I pressed the CORRECT lock button, and then it hit me what I was actually doing last night. IDIOT… Over worked here…

I blame Mercedes for your gaff. I mean how difficult could it be to actually outline each function on the fob in a white stamping like 99.999% of the key fobs out there. Bad Mercedes....

Just pulling your leg, Joe. Everyone should have a shaved cat.

Next best would be a ditzy blonde with a shaved cat...

YES, I learned this “trick” almost 30 years ago. It has worked with every single car I have ever owned.

Same Issue

I’m having the same issue with locking. And I double checked and I AM using the the lock button. Works to unlock and i can lock from the inside but it won’t lock. I just changed the fob battery so that’s not it. Any ideas?

This has worked for all my cars, too.. except the Benz. It's possible the Mercedes simply has much more range and so I've never even needed to try it. But are you sure it works on Mercedes?
