After being out of the Benz game for about 4 years (2009 C63), I just picked up a super clean 1 owner 2010 E550. This thing is a tank. I can't wait to make some tasteful upgrades.

I'm loving it so far. I plan on doing front pads and rotors in the next week since they're pulsing a bit. While I'm in there I'll examine the suspension to see where things are at in terms of wear. I'm getting a slight knocking noise over bumps which is probably a strut mount so we'll see. Car has 52,000 miles currently. Cosmetically the car is near perfect inside and out. The only issue I'm seeing is that the bezel where the command dial is located is etching away.

I wonder, maybe the new ones will grow on me, my friend traded his '14 in on a '19 last year, I don't much care for it, don't much care for the dash or back end, and definitely don't like the four banger turbo, just sounds like a go-kart. reminds me of my '01 C240

I hate the W213. The dash, the engine sound, all of it... but especially the dash.
My dealer loaned me a (MSRP $77k) E450 wagon for a few days like 6 months ago. The thing bottomed out on the highway over dips.
The W212 is my last E-class unless they come up with something a lot better than their effort in the 213.

I agree, the 213 is a step backwards or down anyway, I may have mentioned we have been looking for something to maybe replace the "13, but I've been to Cadillac, Lincoln, Audi, Infinity, Acura and yesterday to Lexus, only Lexus has a chance and quite frankly after test driving all of them, I am sure I left in the better car! I did narrow it down to the ES or GS, big price difference between those two.

We owned an ES350.. not for long, though. It was the last generation with the "ultra luxury" package, so it had Mark Levinson audio, semi-aniline leather.. panoramic roof. The sound system was great and the leather was so creamy/buttery smooth. Overall, very nice car. But it was so uninspiring and bland to drive that after a month we sold it and got a Miata to cleanse the palate.

Right? I completely agree, my head says most reliable luxury car, everything is nice, my butt says "this is an old man car" and I'm an old man who doesn't need any help looking older! TheGS was better but 30k more it was a F Sport, maybe I'll try and find an E350 with F Sport, might help. The ES 250 was not good, after that test drive, again, I left in the better car! I may go drive the Genesis G90 tomorrow, my 91 year old Mom wants one, if I make her trade in her '12 Hyundai Genesis with every option available in '12.
Oh I'd take a G80 or G70 every day over anything Lexus makes.
Well, you may be right about that too, today I'm driving to Jersey, "dad's puppy taxi," my daughter let my son take her dog home to see how it would work out for him having a dog and living on the 32nd floor in Manhattan, not so well apparently. I will drive the Genesis this upcoming week, we'll see how that goes, if not awesome, I will table the car thing for another year and keep this E. I really do like it a lot and if there's nothing really better so far and I'm not exactly slumming.

we test drove a bunch of lexus before narrowing in on the W212. the LS430 was nice, but was 20 years old. the LS460's ride wasn't what we wanted even tho it was otherwise a rather nice car. The GS was something I would have accepted, especially the F-Sport with the adjustable suspension, but too cramped and sporty for my wife. The ES was just bland FWD yuck to drive, felt like a Camry. Every one of those, we'd get back in our 280,000 mile W124 wagon, and go, now THIS rides and drives right.
After 13 hours in the car yesterday and a beautiful drive through the Pennsylvania countryside, We decided to keep this car another year and not bother to go look at the Genesis. Great ride, great road manners and after an hour or so I forgot I was in the sport and welcomed the extra precision it provides. It was sunny and the long twisty roads through the mountains provided great vistas on the way there. really glad I had the xenons for the ride home as the highway was downright desolate on the way home. The Auto headlights work great under these conditions, no turning off for every speed limit sign I pass, like on the windy suburban roads at home. We did have to stop for extra 5 minute walks for the dog, but other than that we made it in 6 1/2 hours and made it home in 6! Thats fast! {435 miles}
These are truly the kind of road trips that remind me why I bought this car to begin with.
