as far as I know, only the dealers have access to the MB network with complete firmware, and any replaced module should be loaded with the current firmware as well as proper settings for the cars options. my mercedes indie mechanic has the XEntry system for diagnostics, but can't do any 'official' module coding or get access to firmware updates.

Not really. Some independent mechanics may only be able to do diagnostic work, but others are capable of anything - and perhaps more - than a dealer is capable of. We actually did some firmware updates on the car on Monday while working on the headlights and we played around with the coding for a long time trying to get it to behave.

I am still waiting to hear back on what the next step is.

Well no, all about what their willing to pay for, my mechanic has full Xentry access, he set things like ride height headlights for me, he just pays a monthly fee and works on enough Benz's to make it worthwhile, I actually think he's better than the dealer mechanics, because he has to be!

My car is being towed to a dealer next week by the insurance company. No one has any idea what is going on with the timing of the lights. Here's to hoping they end up replacing the original one.

They won't allow it to be driven by their people and I can't take it myself as the rental is waiting for me at the local body shop. The dealer is 50 miles away. So they flatbed it.

That makes sense...at first I was scratching my head...trying to figure out why it needed to be towed for a bad headlight

This was handled.. the dealership had to replace the control modules for the original headlight to sort the issue. Total cost $905.

...and now the ILS functions that were unlocked by Vlad are no longer working, though the cluster still shows the system "ON". Time to get back with Vladimir.

sick of this bull***** now.

I bet the dealer turned them off to sync the headlights and replace the control module for the old headlight?

Wonder if you just need to reinstall?
