With that luck, I believe I'd hold onto the 2012 E550. No car payments and it has never given issues.

85000! I think they were ready to upsell the crap out of it. The front brakes shimmy...i told them I'll take it as is. I'll deal with all the nuances.

You stole that car. The brakes are an easy fix. Way to go

What a wonderful slightly damp car!
damn...that's less than I paid for my 2012 E550 with 92k miles(2-14-2018)...excellent deal! Congrats! Mine had the same shimmy as well! I put all new rotors and pads from FCP Euro. Never have to buy them again. Mine has the intrusion every once in a while, but it is not consistent, so no worries there for me.

I still have the original motor mounts and transmission mount. A local indy quoted me $2,000 to replace all 3 mounts. That includes sales tax. I don't feel the mounts are causing any problems, so I don't think I'll replace them. (I tried searching online for E550 motor mounts and nobody has them. I emailed FCPEuro and they didn't have them but they gave me the part numbers. I googled them and still nothing popped up)

Side note, Carmax just started offering 24 hour test drives and a 30 day return policy (up to 1,500 miles). That's easily the best in the industry. Vroom and Carvana offer 7 day return policies. Tesla used to offer 7 days for returns but they quietly stopped that.
I think there was a thread recently that said the motor mounts for the E550 was easier than the E350 as the AC wasn't in the way. What was the part number they gave you? You can normally just punch it into Mercedes dealer parts website. If you can't find anything googling it, normally you just drop the A and use the entire part number with no spaces. Like here's the right and left engine mount just by searching an MB parts website. Would need to run the vin through epc to confirm that they actually fit. 2k seems a bit high, probably need to shop a few more indys and maybe pick up the parts from the MB dealer and get a labor only quote.

I just had all 3 done at MB dealer and went and grabbed the invoice for parts info: They charged the motor mounts to my Carmax warranty, for just those the bill was $1868, here are the motor mount parts:
quantity 1: 212-240-61-17-64 Engine Mount $218
quantity 1: 212-240-62-17-64 Engine Mount $252
quantity 4:910105-008014 Screw $10.80
Labor: $1353

Trans mount was supposed to be covered, but dealer forgot to submit it and was tired of dealing with warranty co., so they covered replacing it and I have no cost info:
quantity 1: 204-240-06-18 Transmission Bearing
quantity 5: 000000-003175-64 Nut
quantity 2: 000-990-75-03 Screw
quantity 2: 000-990-15-11 Screw
quantity 2: 000-990-73-11 Thread Forming Screw
quantity 3: 000000-003281 Nut
quantity 4: 124-421-04-71 Bolt And Washer Assembly

That's what I have - to me some of the numbers look off, but that is directly from my invoice.
Good Luck!

Is yours 4matic or RWD? I think the parts vary depending on what it is so that's why you should always confirm the parts with the vin number through epc.

Looks like the transmission mount was about $140 and it's a quick 20 minute job, probably less it was already up on the lift.

He also has a M278, so the job might be different... as my experience was with a M272 and M273. Just the motor mounts are ~ $300 ($400 list) for OE and the M273 is the same P/N for driver and passenger side. Yes, the M273 was a little easier, but that's relative. I wouldn't do them for less than $600 in labor. According to MB, its a 5.3 hr job, so ~ $800 around here at dealer.

*edit*

For the M278 it lists is as 9.6 hours for both motor mounts... yeah, just need to lift engine and drop the front subframe.

Oh I guess those are 4matic mounts, $152 and $176. I notice some dealers tend to mark up their parts to over list price.

$152 and 176 are discounted prices... if you walked in the door they'll likely charge full list 218/252 + tax. Even the same dealer who's selling it online for less. I pay a little less than those online prices, but we used to be in the business (before father retired). They used give indys better prices, but now they'll sell online for about the same cost to anyone. Last parts order for the E550 was a dealership out of CA... prices for whole order where less than local and no tax (which I was surprised, since everyone is collecting now).

Yes '13 USA Sedan, so 4matic - They had to pull the motor to do the wiring harness - I asked them to do the mounts then, but No... Hopefully just about everything it needs for some time has now been done. I'm sure the warranty co. will be happy to see us go...

I've gone to the local dealer a few times for small parts where it's a $20 part and if I mail order it, it's another $10 to ship it so the even if it's discounted and $14, the shipping makes it more than the local list price. But then you call up one dealer and they want $30 but then another will stick with the $20 price. I notice that if they have to look it up for you, they charge the higher list price, but if you just ask them if they have this part number in stock, they'll quote you the list price. Anyway, just pointing out to the previous guy how it's probably cheaper than $2k to replace the motor mounts/transmission mounts. The local indy is about $90/hour although I can get an indy that's $50/hour, but he's sometimes booked up and some complex stuff he doesn't have the equipment to handle like A/C.

my local MB indie can get me MB parts next day at MSRP. nearest dealer is 45 minutes away so that works for me.

OP, good luck on your search. I love my 2012 E550.

I spent 9 months looking for my car. I previously had a C300, but wanted a little more room and power

We live in WI and I found the E550 at a dealer in MA. It was priced very well. My wife and I flew to Boston and drove it home. It was a great trip. So, don't discount opening up your search radius.

This car is a tank. I bought it with 14700 miles on the clock 8 years ago. It has over 180 000 miles now. Changed starter and all air springs and struts. That's about it for the maintenance/repair other than oil changes.

For the book price that is probably below $9000. I will never get rid of this car as it is way more valuable than the mileage puts it to. My miles are 85% highway so the engine has only about 55 000 miles on it compared to a city car.

I believe it runs another 100 000 miles without issues if I was driving it like I did in the past. I'm driving a 2013 S550 now as my daily driver. E gets few miles every 3-4 weeks when I crank it up and drive a little to keep battery charged. I don't use any trickle chargers for it. Starts up with no issues at all after sitting for 4 weeks straight.

Rear air shocks replaced 2 years ago. Just got this bill today. $6,300 in repairs and maintenance. Unfortunately I do need all of this, I’m not being taken for a ride by the shop. Very reliable car. 145k and every time I drive I drive fast. No powertrain issues at all. Still searching for someone to fix my inner air bladder in my dynamic seat. Everyone keeps telling me to go buy a $5k seat😂😂 nope, they are easily repairable but extremely tough to get out of the seat and even worse is getting it back in.

The price you were charged for a change in your cabin air filter was absolute highway robbery for a 2 minute job

says engine air AND cabin filter, so I'd ahve to assume thats both the engine filters and the cabin filter.

now I have no idea how hard it is to change the engine air filter on these cars, I've not yet touched anything under the hood on mine, only had hte 212 since 2020-12-24
on my 124's, its pretty trivial. ditto on my volvos and pretty much all previous cars, also my f250 diesel.

^ This car has gone 180,000 miles! I celebrate that. Certainly a lot of these can be DIY, but if you have a good relationship with your dealer then just get these services done. Thanks for sharing the service quotes.

I have the same engine and it would take maybe 15 minutes at the most, all it requires is taking off the pretty plastic piece and then the air cleaner assembly to get to the filters. Mann made all filters (cabin, air, oil) for Mercedes-Benz during that time, not sure about now and they’re dirt cheap if you buy them without the MB logo at any autoparts store

I envy the folks who have had to do minimal work on their car. After everything I've done the only reason I haven't driven mine into a tree is because I just freaking love driving it and they are, indeed, hard to find. There are a few in my area, but almost every time I pass a W212 I think "350" to myself.

Speaking of work, I just started getting a CEL thrown by codes P0346 and P0347. I read that this could be a cam sensor wiring harness issue... but I'm having trouble finding the wiring harness. Anyone able to provide a part number? Should I replace the sensor along with the harness?

Start a separate thread (or one related to the cam wiring) along with the VIN, and someone will help you with the P/Ns.

FCPeuro gave me these two part numbers for the engine mounts on the 2012 E550 4matic sedan.

Left: A2122406117

Right: A2122406217

The indy I got the quote from specializes in Mercedes cars. It was $1,850 +tax, so $2,000 to replace the two engine mounts and the trans mount. Seems about right based on what you guys paid. I think I'll just hold off on that for now or maybe just do the trans mount. I don't feel the vibration is excessive. I know I have to get the spark plugs changed again during my next service. It's a pain for them because it's a V-8 and last time they changed them I remember they had a very hard time removing at least one of the plugs.

No wonder you couldn't find them, those are missing a couple digits on the part numbers.
