Corrosion

Live in Norway. Car 9 years. MY 2012, unexpected corrosion in rear subframe and a lot of corrosion spots at aft part. Needed to remove the rear axle, sandblasting the structure and repaint including corrosion inibitor. If you live at a location where the enviroment is hard for you car will I recomend to treat it for corrosion and remove the plastics underneath the car once a year for thruly washing.

Rear axle removed. Subframe will be replaced

Easy access

In front of LH wheel collected mud during the years. Not visibl when the inner parts of the fender was installed

before sandblasting

after sandblasting

used part waiting to be installed. Bought at mercedes own second hand shop in Europe. mbgtc.de

Rear subframe forward lower attachment. Severre corrosion close to the drain hole
Before I had the sandblasting gun get over the area. Looks good at first glitch. When i hit it with sanblasting gun the paint just fall of. (Before)

The result after sandblasting. the darker spots was initial corrosion (After)

50 man hours later 150 in total. Finished work on the car. The car is running in Oslo, The capital town in Norway but mainly not close to the sea. I belive the road salt have been to hard for the original corrosion protection to handle. The seals between the diffrent plates was very good performed by Mercedes. Nevertheless it took me some time to correct the underside of the car. The sandblasting and painting was most time consuming.

In addition, replaced the compressor. The old one was found leaking.

Rear axle re installed

Corrosion protected underfloor. Before exhaust plates

Bolts / and sway bar links for 400 USD, was replaced

Subframe installed in rear axle and new suspension arms including bolts. The suspension arms was tightned in normal "drive" position. The subframe got a additional layer of 2k paint and thereafter corrosion protection with Mercasol
