E350 4MATIC SUSPENSION

Ran into a little problem with my 2012 E350 4MATIC. I noticed a squeaking noise every time I go on a bumpy road or someone exits or enters the vehicle. It’s coming from my rear passenger side but not on the rear drivers side. I’m thinking it’s something to do with the shocks. If so are there any good suggestions on what shocks I should buy? Any recommendations on favorite brands they have gone with. Should I purchase both sides or am I fine with just changing the one side?

Could also be a worn suspension bushing on the rear sub-frame or rear control arm or bushing, might want to check before the shock purchase. looks like you have a luxury, B4 Bilstein, great choice.

Replace shocks in pairs, but as mentioned it could be a bushing or ball joint more than likely if you hear squeaking. So best have it diagnosed.

Pretty sure what was meant was shocks on the same axle/end-of-car all at once... Me, I'd do all 4, unless there was some circumstance where one failed early (defect, rough hit, etc.), then I'd just do that axle's shocks...

On edit: the OP asked about doing one side, which you don't want to do...

is that a wagon or sedan? 212 wagons all have self leveling airmatic shocks, and y ou can't replace those with anything else unless you also replace the springs AND disable the airmatic compressor.

You need to stop thinking about W124s.... the W212 wagon has air springs and regular hydraulic dampers (shocks). The air springs are part of the self-leveling, or EHNR for wagons (electronic rear axle level control system).

Sedans with airmatic do have variable (electronic) damping shocks.
