Muffler delete or magnaflow mufflers?
Hi everyone
I recently deleted the secondary cats and resonator on my 2011 e550. Definitely sounds louder, but not enough. I’m debating between straightpiping my mufflers or putting in a set of magnaflows. Anyone have thoughts / suggestions? Thanks!
for anyone wondering I’m considering these mufflers: https://www.ebay.com/itm/142204431402

your car has massive and extensive soundproofing throughout the body, cabin, and engine compartment, to make it as quiet as possible.

I have no input on your choice... but having the same car, I'm very interested in your findings. Have you taken any videos [for sound] of your exhaust modifications to date? If not, please do at each "step", they would be very appreciated.

and any sound evaluations should be done from behind the car, maybe from another car with its windows down in a parallel lane, while the mufflerless car is being driven up grades, accelerating, and so forth.

Same magnaflow mufflers with an x-pipe in place of the mid resonator and aem air-filters on my e550. Secondary cats still in place though. See linked video.

You meant resonators, not cats right?

No, I meant cats because that is the terminology the OP used in his first post and I wanted to distinguish that mine are still in tact. I know that they are just resonators but many people refer to them as secondary cats opposed to resonators.

I am aware the secondary cats are in fact resonators. I was just using the terms that my dealer uses. I apologize for any confusion!

No need to apologize. S. Madman is just looking for an opportunity to act like a douche and flex his car knowledge by trying to correct someone.

Ill be having my mufflers cut off tomorrow to see if I like the sound and if I do I’ll just throw in some straight pipes. If I don’t, I’ll be ordering those magnaflows. I have a feeling I’ll end up with the magnaflows as I’ve been told the exhaust will sound raspy rather than throaty. I’ll show some pictures tomorrow when I’m under the lift!

I am trying to educate.
And Alan your acknowledgement of your mistake is more than enough. I hope that you enjoy your sound, as I have I.
PS: if your dealer confuses them it's time for a new one.

I've always thought people who cut off their mufflers to 'sound better' should reroute their exhaust pipes into the cabin so they can really enjoy the experience instead of sharing it with everyone ELSE outside and behind their nearly sound proofed car.

Quick update. I had my mufflers chopped offed and she now sounds like a straight piped Mustang GT. Far too loud for me and has some serious drone issues when driving in city stop and go speeds. Part of my heat shield was also loose, causing it to come into contact with the now muffler-less pipe making it sound like someone is shaking a jar of change. That has since been fixed. I’ve went ahead and ordered the Magnaflow mufflers and will further update you guys on the sound!
Here’s a sound clip with the following exhaust mods done so far. Secondary cat (resonator delete) with straight pipes, the second resonator delete with an xpipe, and muffler delete:

why do you keep calling the resonator a secondary cat? it is not a catalytic converter. the only cats are the ones at the ends of the two downpipes

they won't let you run that loud on the tracks here, both Laguna Seca and Sears Point have strict sound rules, and they've got DB meters around the track at key acceleration points, they hear you break their limits, you are red flagged

I literally just had this same debate a few days ago while I was at the muffler shop. The plan was to go with some custom Magnaflow, however after the tech cut off my mufflers, he had me come in the shop to listen to the sound. It was very mild without the mufflers so I decided to stick with it. With that said, I have an E63 S Bi-Turbo so the turbos quiet things down A LOT. I also left the resonators on which the tech said helps knock down the sound in the cabin so I have no drone at all.
It's crazy, now I have no mufflers and it still doesn't sound very aggressive unless I really step on it in a tunnel!
