Navigation map update?

I had several routes memorized, so cleaned them in the process, so actually I gained some memory.

My 2014 software doesn't show I 303 - loop around the Phoenix, with construction started about year 1991 and finished about 2006.
So there is like 6-8 years delay between building new road and having it on MB mapping.
Google maps from what I see will show new road before it is even open to traffic.

The dealer is not the lord and saviour to maps. You just need to download the maps from the MB Map Portal.
What you’re really paying for is the license specific to your vin.

its best to do this somewhere that has a good high speed download as a large area map can take like 300-400MB. you also can name each of these offline areas
I assume while navigating, Android Auto will use the offline maps in Google Maps as default. Is that true, or do you have to designate that somehow?
Good information, thanks a lot.

Before I was saving routes, what took good Mb and when I took 1/4 mile detour, my route would not cover the street.
Must be good compression on the data?

In Connections I go to Data Usage and turn Mobile Data off.
that will do it.
My friends have unlimited internet with their service, so even the music in their cars come from the Internet.
But I pay $6 a month and you know what you are paying.

yes, very good compression, and the map is vector data (coordinates of line segments) rather than pixel image data. the only thing you won't get when navigating from saved maps offline is traffic updates.

Couple of times I did local trips with couple of stops and for some reason the GPS went off and I lost the trip.
But having lot of WI FI spots in Las Vegas, I just drove to 1 of them and reloaded.
Still for common travel area, download the zone on your android. I think it was LC Geek who gave me some tip. I downloaded whole Las Vegas valley and it did not take much memory. Now I can search restaurants and other stuff with no Internet.
Still when I am stuck in accident traffic, I turn phone internet on for live traffic. It sucks gigabytes (and battery) fast when you drive, but 1 time checking is not bad.

But on a more relevant, car navigation related note: I took a gamble and after much angst pulled the trigger on downloading the map and activation code for $99 from www.navi-expert.com (a Russian site) and hoped for the best. The best happened: North America downloaded to my computer in a couple of hours and the activation code matched what I spent $75 for earlier in this thread (Education isn't free, ya know). Unzipped the 18GB file into roughly 19 GB, followed the emailed, nicely detailed set of instructions and dropped the relevant files onto a clean USB2 thumb drive formatted to FAT32, plugged it in to the USB port in the center console, and 80 minutes later had NTG 4.5 V20 (2020) loaded in the COMAND.
Long story short: $99 plus a paypal fee ($114.99 total) updated me from 2013 to 2020 without a hitch. Evgeny sold me what I intended to buy and was very clear on how to use what he sold me.
I have mac so anyone worried about compatibility its not a big deal. Instructions say you must use a USB 2.0 stick but I used a newer 32GB USB 3.0 stick no problem. For Mac users it suggest you use 2 separate apps to assist in the file extraction which I did not use. A key element you want to do to make sure is reformat the USB drive in the FAT format it requests. Do not try newer EX-FAT format. I upgraded from 2012 (v7.0) the entire process took about 90 minutes.
You’ll need a PC to download the maps
download this software if you haven’t already

pass: DLM
login: DLM
youll need usb stick as well, formatted with nothing on it. i believe the usb stick needs to be USB 2.0 and at least 32GB? don’t remember.
it will take quite sometime for the maps to be installed onto the USB (took me a few hours)
feel free to PM me, we can possibly skype if you need help!
i’m not affiliated with them but don’t mind helping
