Screen replacement

Any recommendations on switching a 2016 E 350 screen to a bigger touch screen?? Seen a few on Ebay but wasn't sure on which one to get since most of them are coming from out of the country. Seen videos and read up on this but still feel indecisive and uncertain on which one to invest in. Does this even require reprogramming?

to run a touch screen, you would need a whole different computer behind it, since the Mercedes COMAND NTG5.1 system you have is entirely controlled by the knob and various buttons.

I opted to do the updates to enable using Android Auto on my phone with the stock system, it integrates very nicely, but you run your phone with the knob when its connected, there is no touch screen. I find touch screens in motor vehicles to be quite annoying, as any road vibration makes it really hard to select something. This is only available on 2016 W212's that came with the NTG5.1 system, the earlier NTG4.5 COMAND doesn't support it at all

the alternative is Chinese hack android boxes, which often have older poorly supported versions of /regular/ Android, not Android Auto, and tend to be quite buggy, and don't integrate well with the rest of the car's systems. They often rely on you putting your cellphone in 'hotspot' mode so they can get to the internet via your cell via wifi, and I've noted people complaining that if the drivers' phone is bluetooth linked (say, to play spotify or pandora music), then the passenger's phone can't be answered with the car, which you can do with the stock NTG 5.1 system, with or without the android auto extension.

In short, OP forgot to include option 3: Neither one

Interesting, my '12 has the NTG 4 and my '13 has the NTG 4.5 Both pick whichever iPhone gets to the car first, then only acknowledges that particular phones incoming calls, Yes, no Apple CarPlay, The "16's will answer both phones ? Just curious, I pick option 3 also. LOL

mine seems to. only the first phone gets music, but it will answer my wife's phone, surprised us the first time it happened. now, this was before I enabled carplay/android auto via firmware updates and vladimir's dongle, I am not sure if she's used her phone when I've had mine plugged in via USB (aa/cp requires usb)
