Yes, I know U.S. cars have plenty of options as standard but I would have though the front passenger weight sensor would be a standard as no matter where you sell the car someone will seat a too small child on that seat that can get injured by the bag...

I think this kind of a safety item would be there from the company who drums for safety. Just my thought.

Different market, different expectation.
European MB do have pyrotechnic hood hinges, who cushion/protect pedestrian in accident.
The option never made it over the Pond.

But the spring mounted hood star did though I don’t think it is requirement here.

Yes, in my garage it's required, LOL. I love the hood star, my favorite part of the car, one of the reasons I bought the '13 sport instead of the '14 sport. I believe the '14 luxury had them

Also in my cars the light is off until I put my briefcase on the seat, then it says airbag disabled, I still use the LATCH setup in the backseat for carseats though.

It seems OP has a car that has air bag always enabled so it is not possible to mount child seat in front. Small babies need to be in a backward seat as their neck is not strong enough to support the weight of their head in case of hard braking or collision. And like OP says she cannot see the face of the baby with seat mounted backward in rear.

That mirror mentioned here in this thread may be the only option if she don’t want to hire a driver so that she can sit next to the baby in rear.
