The ride height seems to be higher on the Luxury though - not sure if it's an illusion because of different bumper/side skirts/wheels. I suppose I can go measure when I see the cars!

For w212, Luxury comes with 485 suspension, Avantgarde with 677 suspension which is about 15mm lower, and Sport with 486 suspension which is a few mm lower than 677.

And l assume shorter springs are stiffer.

indeed, my 2016 'luxury' wagon has 485, Direct Control Suspension.

And also stiffer shocks matching shorter ( and stiffer ) springs....
My last car was a W204 sport. With 486 suspension and 18" low profile tires ( and 42psi ), it almost broke my back. My back still not fully recovered yet ....
